Summary
This document is a histology lab document covering different biological tissues, including cartilage, muscle, and blood samples. The study aims to identify various types of muscle in different organisms like horses, dogs, and chickens. The document also discusses blood smears across different animal species and other tissues such as Spongy Bones, bone growth. Includes tables and figures.

**Identify the Types of Cartilage and Muscle** ![](media/image2.jpeg) **Take note of the Smooth Muscle of the stomach. Take note of the single nucleus, in a spindle shaped fiber.** **Identify Dog blood smear from a Horse blood smear** **Characteristics of Blood Smear in;** **Horse --** Formation of stacking in Horses red blood cells. Remember that Rouleaux formation is only in healthy horse (and in some cats). Not seen in Cattle and Dog ![](media/image4.jpeg)**Chicken --** (not sure) **Dog** -- (not sure) **Reminder: Central Pallor** -- Only in Dogs. Not found in Cats, Bovine and Equine ![](media/image6.jpeg)**Spongy Bones --** **What do you call the Opening of Spongy bone** -- Trabeculae ![](media/image8.jpeg)**Epimysium, Perimysium & Endomysium** **Hyaline vs Elastic Cartilage** **Hyaline cartilage** The most common type of cartilage in the body, hyaline cartilage is tough but slightly flexible. It\'s made up of a matrix of closely packed collagen fibers, and is found in the following locations: Lining joints Capping the ends of bones Inside bones, where it serves as a center of bone growth In the walls of the respiratory tracts, including the nose, larynx, trachea, and bronchi **Elastic cartilage** Also known as yellow cartilage, elastic cartilage is the most flexible type of cartilage in the body. It\'s made up of collagen and elastic fibers, which give it a stiff yet elastic quality. Elastic cartilage is found in the following locations: The pinna of the ear The walls of the auditory and eustachian canals The larynx ![](media/image10.jpeg) The epiglottis **Identify types of WBC (to be check kay Doc)** **Animal Species** **Erythrocyte** **Neutrophil** **Eosinophil** **Basophil** -------------------- ------------------------------------ ------------------------------------ ------------------------- --------------------------------------------------- **Canine** **Central pallor / Normal canine** **3 -- 5 segments of lobed** **5%** **1% last of WBC** **Feline** **Biconcave Disc** **1^st^ line of Defense / Difera** **Parasitic, Toxicity** **Equine** **Bovine** **Smaller Size** **Present in Inflammatory** **Ovine** **Smaller Size** **Present but not characterized** **Caprine** **Smaller Size** **Present in Inflammatory but not characterized** **Porcine** **Poikilocytosis** **Present in Inflammatory** **The Animal nucleated RBC --** Avian **Where is the location of Hematopoiesis? --** Spongy Bones / the spongy tissue inside of your bones called bone marrow In adult animals, **hematopoiesis occurs** in the bone marrow, the central cavity of bones. (Pero base kay Doc. ay (Bone marrow -- Young / Flat Bone -- Adult) **What do you call the Myofibrils of the Smooth Muscle(?) --** **Give the cell of Muscle fiber --** Myocytes **Only multinucleated muscle** -- Skeletal muscle fibers **Layer of the bone that is involve in osteogenesis**? -- The periosteum\'s inner cambium layer, also known as the osteogenic layer, is involved in osteogenesis. **Mode of cell growth of Cartilage (**Appositional & Interstitial**) & Bone (**Appositional method only**)** **Appositional growth of bone starts at the periosteum**, a layer of connective tissue and blood vessels that encases the bone. **Least circulating white blood cells in blood** -- Basophils **Bonus Questions:** **True or False** Red Blood Cells are **LARGER** than mammals? Answer: **False** **Blood supply enter the bone through the?** -- Blood vessels enter the bone through the nutrient foramen, which are small openings in the diaphysis of the bone.
