Department of Health Treatment and Rehabilitation Center (DOH- TRC) Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City (3,000 patients) DRUGS - chemicals, other than food, that affect or modify the structure or function of the body. All drugs have risks and benefits. Factors That Influence Substance or Drug Use and Abuse A.Substance Use - Any drug used or involved in the treatment or medication of an illness. B. Substance Misuse The inappropriate use of a substance, often in a way that deviates from prescribed guidelines or social norms, but without significant harm to the individual. C. Substance Abuse The habitual use of a substance in a way that results in harmful consequences, including physical, psychological, social, or legal problems. Substance abuse often involves a disregard for potential negative outcomes. D. Substance Dependence compulsive drug-seeking, continued use despite harmful consequences, and long-lasting changes in the brain. D. Substance Dependence Dependence typically involves both tolerance (needing more of the substance to achieve the same effect) and withdrawal symptoms when not using the substance.
