 Hardware refers to the physical parts of a computer system that can been seen and touched.  These comprise the components of the system such as the computer itself, input, output and storage devices.  The system unit, also known as a “tower“, “box” or “chassis,” is the main part of a desktop computer comprising the case and internal components such as the motherboard, Central Processing Unit (CPU), Random Access Memory (RAM) and other internal parts.  The System Unit is sometimes loosely referred to as the CPU.  The CPU is the brain of the computer system and is where most of the instructions and calculations are carried out.  The CPU is often referred to simply as the processor.  This is any hardware device connected to and controlled by the Central Processing Unit (CPU).  Peripherals include keyboards, mice, monitors, printer and speakers.
