PHILOSOPHY & CO-FOUNDER’S CREED INTRODUCTION This presentation focuses on the key elements that define the University of Perpetual Help System (UPHS), which include history, philosophy, vision, mission, the founder's and co-founder’s creed, and lastly, the school seal. Understanding this element is important in order to know what it means to be a Perpetualite and its community. 1 HISTORY OF UPHSD The University of Perpetual Help System DALTA Inspired by Dr. Jose G. Tamayo and Dr. Josefina Laperal Tamayo's dedication to national development, Dr./BGen. Antonio L. Tamayo and Dr. Daisy M. Tamayo founded Perpetual Help College of Rizal (PHCR) on February 5, 1975, in Las Piñas City. Initially serving 185 students with two programs, the college expanded with branches in Molino and Calamba in 1995 and 1996, respectively. In 1997, PHCR achieved university status, and in 2017, it was granted Autonomous Status by CHED. Today, the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA continues to excel, with a strong network of national and international partnerships. 2 PHILOSOPHY The University of Perpetual Help System DALTA believes and invokes Divine Guidance in the betterment of the quality of life through national development and transformation, which are predicated upon the quality of education of its people. Towards this end, the Institution is committed to the ideals of teaching, community service and research as it nurtures the value of “Helpers of God”, with “Character Building is Nation Building” as its guiding principle. 3 VISION The University of Perpetual Help System DALTA shall emerge as a premier university in the Philippines. It shall provide a venue for the pursuit of excellence in academics, technology, and research through local and international linkages. The University shall take the role of a catalyst for human development. It shall inculcate Christian values and Catholic doctrine, as a way of strengthening the moral fiber of the Filipino, a people who are “Helpers of God”, proud of their race and prepared for exemplary global participation in the sciences, arts, humanities, sports, and business. It foresees the Filipino people enjoying a quality of life in abundance, living in peace, and building a nation that the next generation will nourish, cherish, and value. 4 MISSION The UNIVERSITY OF PERPETUAL HELP SYSTEM DALTA is dedicated to the development of the Filipino as a leader. It aims to graduate dynamic students who are physically, intellectually, socially and spiritually committed to the achievement of the highest quality of life. As a system of Service in health and in education, it is dedicated to the formation of Christ-- centered, service-oriented and research-driven individuals with great social concern and commitment to the delivery of quality education and health care. It shall produce Perpetualites as “Helpers of God” – a vital ingredient to nation building. 5 THE FOUNDER’S AND CO-FOUNDER’S CREED “Character Building is Nation Building” The creed acts as the fundamental principle established by Dr. / BGen Antonio Tamayo to ensure a high quality of life and prosperity for the youth. It emphasizes the importance of cultivating the right character traits to foster a nation’s growth and success. With the university’s guidance, young people can create a thriving country with their core values and transformative efforts. 6 UPHSD SEAL The seal of the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA was inspired by Dr. Josefina L. Tamayo’s devotion to Out Lady of Perpetual Help, the school’s patroness. The icon depicts Mary offering love and comfort to Jesus, symbolizing her perpetual help available to all. The infant Jesus represents the youth nurtured by Mary’s motherly care, reflecting the university’s values. The two laurel leaves symbolize the CEO’s sons, continuing their parent’s mission, and signify the university’s pursuit of excellence. The seal’s colours being maroon, white, blue, and gold represent courage, purity, generosity, hope, and vision. 7 CONCLUSION The University of Perpetual Help System DALTA (UPHSD), founded in 1975 by Dr.Antonio L. Tamayo and Dr. Daisy M. Tamayo, has evolved from a small college into a respected university known for its commitment to national development and character building. Guided by the philosophy “Character Building is Nation Building,” UPHSD emphasizes the importance of moral, intellectual, and spiritual education in shaping students into leaders and Helpers of God.
