Exchanging goods and migrating to different places A globe of nations GLOBALIZATION Globalization is when businesses and other organizations develop international influence or start operating internationally. It is an interaction among individuals, businesses, countries and organizations around the world It is the increase in economic, social and political interdependencies worldwide (Vercic et al. 2015) AREAS OF COOPERATION /FEATURES OF GLOBALIZATION Areas of cooperation includes; Globalization is about; Economics Economic Integration Politics Cross-border Connectivity Culture International Trade Technology Glocalization Environment Transfer of knowledge Universal laws and charters TECHNOLOGY Technology involves applying scientific knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to create, modify, and utilize systems, processes, and products to solve problems. Technology has been the driving force for connecting global ideas and transforming the world. For instance, globalization began to be used more commonly in the 1980s, reflecting technological advances that made it easier and quicker to complete international transactions. THE INTERNET, GLOBALIZATION AND PUBLIC RELATIONS The internet, particularly social media, is often described as the ‘fourth media revolution’ due to its influence on globalization and general communication. Social media has transformed public relations both in terms of research and in practice. Companies are hugely impacted by these transformations, both negatively and positively. eg the Balenciaga gaffe The development of the internet in the 1960s and the subsequent development of the web browser transformed global communication to a different level. Globalization has facilitated partnerships among PR organizations, creating a presence in every corner of the world. PR practitioners can pitch for jobs outside their countries, join international GLOCALIZATION AND PUBLIC RELATIONS This concept was developed from the combination of the words “globalization” and “Localization” It refers to the adaptation of global products, ideas, technologies services to fit the local context of a particular economy or region Glocalization thrives on the believe that there is the need to globalized the world. CONTRIBUTIONS OF TECHNOLOGY TO PR AND ITS GLOBAL PRACTICE Enhanced Communication Information access Innovation and Creativity chatrooms to deal with audiences Social media to engage audiences Easy ways to conduct PR surveys Monitor events in real time GLOBALIZATION, PR AND HOW THE NEW MEDIA HAS ENABLED THE CONNECTION To Share news update and build relationship with targets audience and Stakeholders Real Time communication and feedback Spread of information across the globe through the interconnectedness of economies and society Helps in Understanding and adapt to different cultures, norms, and expectations POPULAR CULTURE AND PUBLIC RELATIONS Popular culture is the collection of ideas, trends, activities, and products widely accepted or embraced by many people in the global community. Pop culture, a global concept, is significantly shaped by the influence of mass media (media normalization) and technology. It is the driving force behind its prevalence at a particular time.
