(Linchpin is a person or thing that holds something together: the most important part of a complex situation or system) ✓ (Webster’s dictionary) “the organizer of an economic venture, especially one who organizes, owns, manages, and assumes the risks of a business. ✓ A French word means “to undertake”. ✓ Are distinct from small business owners, rely on creativity and innovation – new products, new methods, or new markets. ENTREPRENEURSHIP ✓ The recognition of opportunities (needs, wants, problems, and challenges) and the use of creation of resources to implement innovative ideas for new, thoughtfully planned ventures. ✓ Concerned with new ideas connected to new markets. ✓ Not always for profit. There are entrepreneurial ventures that are nonprofit. Social Entrepreneurs – look for and implement solutions to societal problems; their focus is to solve problem or create a benefit to humanity. INTRAPRENEURSHIP ▪ A grade/type of entrepreneurship within a given system or entity. Balanced dimensions of the right level assure graded sustainable intrapreneurial (GSI) for optimal output. POLITICS ✓ Comes from the Greek word “polis” which means “city state”. ✓ The art and science of government. ✓ An art because it involves the process through which the government skillfully addresses the needs of society. ✓ A science as it is a systematic body of knowledge that deals with the government. Some of the biggest ways that political activity can shape entrepreneurial decisions and outlook include the following: a) Demographic insights b) Periods of activity or inactivity in legislation c) Fears on new developments d) Excitement over new developments e) Cultural attitudes and buying decisions SOCIOECONOMIC ✓ Means the interaction of social and economic factors. ✓ Economic – relates to trade, industry, and the creation of wealth. Economic system – an organize way in which a country allocate resources and distributes goods and services across the whole nation, a type of social system. SOCIOECONOMIC FACTORS THAT WILL AFFECT ENTREPRENEURSHIP 1. Financial viability and social standing 2. Culture and/or ethnicity 3. Level of education 4. Income and occupation 5. Health and lifestyle 6. Quality of neighborhood Technological advancements - helps public and private enterprises and entrepreneurs to gain competitive edge as these advancements bring about efficiency, productivity, and profitability. For a Legal environment to be efficient to support entrepreneurship, it should provide entrepreneurs with rights and protections, and it should offer simple legal procedures for start-ups. Infra means “below”, so infrastructure is the “underlying structure” of a country and its economy, the fixed installations that it needs in order to function.
