FAMILY Gender could be reinforced by the way parents behave and expect toward their children WHAT REINFORCES GENDER? SCHOOL/EDUCATION Children learn their gender identity from playing and interacting with other children and care providers WHAT REINFORCES GENDER? MEDIA Children are constantly bombarded with shows depicting gender stereotypes, from products, programs, and shows WHAT REINFORCES GENDER? CULTURAL AND RELIGIOUS BELIEFS In some societies, sexism is believed as the acceptable social norms It became part of daily practice as a form of conformity within the community even if it is discriminatory THE CONCEPT OF GENDER & DEVELOPMENT GENDER AND DEVELOPMENT A process that is participatory and empowering, equitable, sustainable, free from violence, respectful of human rights, supportive of self-determination, and actualization of human potentials Women as active agents of development, not just passive recipients of development Seeks to achieve gender equality GENDER AND DEVELOPMENT... HOW? MAINSTREAMING – integrating gender into development planning in all sectors of society DEVELOPMENT – sustained capacity (to do and to be) to achieve a better life RATIONALE OF GENDER AND DEVELOPMENT COMPLIANCE the government’s annual budget (GAA) requires all agency to allocate 5% of their budget to GAD Programs RATIONALE OF GENDER AND DEVELOPMENT COMMITMENT our country is a signatory of Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), also known as International Bill on Rights of Women With this, RA 9710 or the Magna Carta for Women was ratified RATIONALE OF GENDER AND DEVELOPMENT COMMITMENT and according to the Article II, Section 4 of the 1987 Constitution...
