Hum󰈀󰈝󰈏󰉄i󰈩s Etymologically, Humanities came from Latin word “humanus” which means, human, cultured and refined. To be human is to show RATIONALITY , BENEVOLENCE and CARE; to be cultured and refined is to show GOOD TASTES and MANNERS indicative of good, proper education. Hum󰈀󰈝󰈏󰉄i󰈩s Generally, Humanities contains the records of man’s quest for answers to the fundamental questions he often asks about himself and about the world he lives in. Hum󰈀󰈝󰈏󰉄i󰈩s Humanities studies how people process and document the human experience using philosophy, literature, religion, art and history as their way of understanding and recording their world. Hum󰈀󰈝󰈏󰉄i󰈩s Humanities studies how individuals’ manner of expression varies as they record human experiences. Ar󰉃 󰉝󰈦p󰈸e󰇸󰈎󰇽ti󰈡󰈝 Refers to the full awareness of all the good qualities of what we see, read, and hear about a work of art. It also talks about an intelligent discussion about a work of art. Ar󰉃 󰉝󰈦p󰈸e󰇸󰈎󰇽ti󰈡󰈝 Enables us to access and appraise a work of art without passing judgement. It helps us to understand art and their meaning. It exposes us to different types of art. It helps us to develop taste for arts. That is the ability to differentiate good art from bad art. Ar󰉃 is a product of man’s creativity, imagination, and expression Not everyone can be considered an artist, but all are spectators of art. We are able to distinguish what is fine and beautiful from what is not and what is good quality and from poor. This give us a role in the field of art appreciation. Thi󰈝󰈕 d󰈩󰇵󰈥e󰈹! In one of your encounters with art through museum visits, musicals, and plays among others, have you ever felt disconnected from an artwork? Was there a point in time when you did not understand what message the art was trying to convey? Thi󰈝󰈕 d󰈩󰇵󰈥e󰈹! Explain why you think you did or did not understand the art. “The role of art as a creative work is to depict the world in a completely different light and perspective” -- Jean Paul Sartre We are able to distinguish what is fine and beautiful from what is not and what is good quality and from poor. More often than not, people are blind to this beauty and only those who have developed a fine sense of appreciation can experience and see the art the way the artist did. Hence refining one’s ability to appreciate arts allows him to deeply understand the purpose of an artwork and recognize the beauty it possesses. In cultivating an appreciation of art, one should also exercise and develop his taste for things that are fine and beautiful. Learning to appreciate art no matter what vocation or profession you have, will lead to a fuller and more meaningful life. In the same way that imagination produces art, art also inspires imagination. Ar󰉃 a󰈼 Ex󰈥󰈹es󰈻󰈎󰈢󰈞 “What an artist does to an emotion is not to include it, but express it. Through expression, he is able to explore his own emotions and at the same time, create something beautiful out of them” — Rob󰈎󰈝 󰉂󰇵o󰈹g󰈩 C󰈢󰈗󰈘in󰈇󰉓󰈡󰈢d Expressing emotions is different from describing emotions. This makes people’s art not a reflection what is outside or external to them, but a reflection of their inner selves. As󰈻u󰈛p󰉃󰈎󰈢󰈞s of A󰈸󰉄 Art is Universal Timeless, spanning generations and continents through and through. Misconceptions: Artist made long time ago. Age is not a factor in determining art. “Art is not good because it is old, but old because it is beautiful.” —Dud󰈗󰈩󰉙, 󰇵t a󰈗, 1960 Art is Universal Art regardless of origin, time, and place are liked and enjoyed by people continuously. Art is Cultural Art has been part of human culture for many centuries. It has served as means of expressing feelings, exchanging ideas, and transferring knowledge from one generation to the next. We process our emotions and ideas through art, thus it plays a significant role in our cultural and social lives. Art is not Nature Man’s expression of his perception of nature. Art is man’s way of interpreting nature. Art is made by man, whereas nature is given around us. Art involves Experience All art depends on experience, and if one is to know art, he must know it not as fact or information but as experience. Art as Expression Art as expression of our thoughts, emotions, institutions, and desires. But it is even more personal than that; it’s about sharing the way we experience the world, which for many is an extension of personality. It is the communication of intimate concepts that cannot be faithfully portrayed by words alone. Arts as a form of Creation Art is diverse range of human activity, and resulting product, that involves creative or imaginative talent expressive of technical proficiency, beauty, emotional, power, or conceptual ideas.
