Force Notes 1: A force is a push or pull Force causes movement or change in any direction Measured in n newtons Buoyancy is the upward force created in liquids (op of gravity) Lift is the difference in air movement over/under a wing to create upward air currents (op of air resistance) Gravity is a force where all things with mass are pulled to other things with mass The more mass, the more pull Normal force prevents things from falling into the ground Applied force is any force created by an outside source Friction works to stop any movement when any two things touch (op of applied force) Heat forms friction Tension is a force of any two things being pulled apart or when one thing is being pulled Compression force is when one thing is being pushed or two things being pushed together Air resistance is the ability to slow a moving object down; not a force (op to lift) Force Notes 2: Law 1 Inertia: object at rest will stay at rest unless outside force acts upon it Law 2: F=ma The bigger and heavier an object is, the more momentum it has Momentum is the mass of an object times the distance moved Law 3: For every force, there is an equal and opposite force Speed=distance/time Velocity is a single direction Acceleration is any change of speed Size=Magnitude; bigger force, bigger magnitude Direction=Area Called VECTOR All forces have opposite pairs Net Force= all forces acting upon an object Balanced forces are when objects net force=0, or when object isn't moving Unbalanced force is when one force is greater than the other, moving or changing the direction of the object Unbalanced force is when net force=0 Force must always be a positive # Forces in same direction are added, when forces in different direction are subtracted Non-contact Forces: When an object pushes or pulls another object without touching it Gravity created every particle of matter to be attracted to every other particle of matter The more mass, the more gravity Gravity is measured in g Magnetism is a force created by electrons moving in magnetic fields North and South go together, while the same dont Wrapping copper wires around metal and adding an electric charge creates an electromagnet Electrostatic is a force that are between electrically charged subatomic particles Lighting is a result of static electricity Nuclear is a force that helps atoms exist
