THE CORE OF QUALITY HEALTH CARE EDUCATION 2 NURSING DOMAINS CONTINUED According to the American Association of College of Nursing there ten domains of nursing practice ( Journal of Nursing regulation, volume 12, 16-22, Jan-2022) Core competences of a Degree Nurse. 1. Knowledge for nursing practice 2. Person centered 3. Population health 4. Scholarship for nursing practice 5. Quality and safety 6. Knowledge for practicing nurse: Nurses should be apply knowledge from all the courses / subjects when providing care. 2. Person Centered Care: The care provided must focus on the needs of clients, family, significant others and the environment. Nurses are to be empathic, demonstrate compassion. Practise good communication skills and confidentiality. 3. Population Health: This involves management of the community; Dealing with public health issues; health prevention, health promotion. Scholarship for nursing practice: Nurses should apply the research when providing, should be innovative NURSING DOMAINS CONTINUED 5. Quality and safety: These are two core values of health, they help to minimize risk of harm to the patients and health practitioners. Safety for the health care providers is also critical, therefore there should be no workplace violence, burnout and other work hazards. 6. Inter-professional partnership: Collaboration across different professions, with the community, patients, families and other stakeholders is essential. System based practice: The system, procedures, processes of the organization must be well understood and practiced. Finances and process of institutional budgeting competences are to be demonstrated. Professional nurses should portray ethical behaviours in practice and respect human rights. 10.Personal, professionalism and leadership development: Nurses are to commit to personal and professional growth. Life-long learning is crucial. Nurses are to identify their role models and mentors to support their professional growth. CONCEPTS OF NURSING PRACTICE Concept: An organizing idea or mental abstraction that represents areas of knowledge. THE CORE OF QUALITY HEALTH CARE EDUCATION 8 1. Clinical judgement: It’s key factor for professional nursing, it refers to a process by nurses based on nursing knowledge, critical thinking and clinical reasoning used to understand and interpret information in the delivery of care. 2. Communication: It is exchange of information, thoughts and feelings through variety of mechanisms. Good communication between nurses and individuals and between nurses and other health professions. 3. Compassionate Care: This is a principle of person centered care. It refers to the way nurses relate to others as human beings and it involves noticing other persons vulnerability. It is interrelated with caring, empathy, respect and is associated with patient satisfaction.. THE CORE OF QUALITY HEALTH CARE EDUCATION 9 4. Diversity, equality and Inclusion: Be able to take of care clients from different ethnicity, age, gender orientation equally and fairly. 5. Ethics: Apply principles that guide person’s behavior, the commonly used are autonomy, beneficence, non maleficence and justice. 6. Evidence based practice: It is a problem solving approach to the delivery of health care that integrate best evidence from studies and patient care data with clinician expertise and patient preferences and values. 7. Health Policy: Nurses have great impact on health policy development, the should contribute profoundly in the health policies and advocate for the clients.
