One of these people was Fatima Meer. She was an antiapartheid activ ist. , Fatima Meer was born in Durba n in 1928 and died in 2010. , Fatima Meer's mothe r had Jewish and Portug uese parents. Her father was a Muslim from Durba n's Indian community. Her mothe r becam e Musli m when she marrie d Fatima 's father. • Fatima Meer believ ed strong ly in human rights and equality. • She worked to build good relationships betwe en Africa n and Indian people in South Africa .
