Man has a physical structure similar to other living creatures on earth such as plants and animals.** ## **MAN is subject to:** - Happiness is to be a man who knows how to enjoy life and is able to be surprised. Man is capable of conceptual thought, which distinguishes him from other creatures on earth.** ### **B. A person may emphasize the cognitive element and approach life as an intellectual matter that provides reasons for everything.** ### **C. Man likewise experiences the presence of a spirit in him.** ### **2. We see persons differing from one another though possessing certain common traits.** - **A person is a being existing in relationship with other beings.** ## **3. Every created thing has a purpose for being.** - **Man acquires a purpose for his existence by continuously creating, liberating and realizing himself and his environment.** ## **4. In the context of FAITH the gifts of our talents, health, and friendship are merited, or that purity of motivation is the result of careful planning, he or she is probably someone with very superficial self-knowledge. ## **Seven Capital Sins** - Pride - Unrestrained appreciation of our own worth - Anger - Inordinate desire for revenge - Lust - Hankering for impure pleasures - Avarice - Immoderate desire for earthly goods - Gluttony - Unrestrained use of food and drink - Envy - Sorrow over another's good fortune - Sloth - Laxity in keeping the Faith &practice of virtue - **Praying our experiences is a way into this depth of self-knowledge and acceptance. As we unfold our experiences and become aware of our blessedness and our brokenness, we begin to become more aware of the who alone can fill our Lives with graciousness.** ## **Brokenncss:** - The awareness of our sinfulness or brokenness also speaks to us of God, for paradoxically our sinfulness is a gift. Our duplicity, our lust, our narcissism, our sloth- all speak to us of the fundamental brokenness in our lives. In our brokenness we come to know God's acceptance and Love. ### **Brokennessis the key tomatically in God** ## **Parable of the Rich Fool** - **The parable of the rich fool** - **luke 12:13-21** - Someone in the crowd said to Him, "teacher tell my brothers to divide the inheritance with me." - Jesus replied, "man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter between you? " then he said to them, "watch out! Be on your guard against of all kinds of greed; a man does not consist in the abundance of his possessions." - And he told them this parable:" the ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop. Не thought to himself. what shall I do? I have no place to store my crops." - "then he said, this is what I'll do. I will tear down my barns and build a bigger ones and there I will store all my grains and my goods. And I'll say to myself, "you have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?"** - **"this is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich towards God.** # **Topic 4: MY FAMILY: THE BEGINNING OF MY PERSONHOOD** - **1. Valuing Process** - **Persons are open and relational by nature. No man is an island: we grow into our full selves as persons only in relating to others. "We Filipinos are never alone." We realize being a person means by others (our conception, birth, upbringing) being with others (our family, friends, neighbors, business associates), and being for others (love, service). This is how we have been created by God- as social beings. This is how we have been redeemed by Christ - as people. This is how the Holy Spirit works not only within but among us as the people of God, journeying toward our common destiny in God (CFC,687).** - **"THE CHILD IS THE FATHER TO THE MAN** - **SIGMUND FREUD** - Freud tells us of the significant contribution of the early years in the development of a person. - He believed that the childhood experiences of a man bear a significant impact and influence on his adult life. - It is in our early experiences that we establish the foundation of our being a person. - Our family and childhood experiences are one of the best foundations of our personality. - We relive our past experiences, especially about our families, we bring out both the positive and negative feelings the pleasant and unpleasant memories. - The pleasant memories energize us and give us a feeling of gratitude. - Negative feelings are more of a problem, especially when they are not resolved through the years. - **Steps in healing these unresolved memories are:** - **1st We acknowledge these feelings and memories;** - **2nd We try our best to understand them;** - **3rd We accept them and 4th we forgive them** - **"It becomes also a challenge for us to consider expressing our gratitude and appreciation for the positive feelings and memories given us. Many times we lose golden opportunities to make a person happy simply because we fail to express our appreciation."** - **1. The family in the plan of God is a community of life and love. The essence and role of the final analysis is specified by proces** - **2. Family communion is greatly preserved and perfected in the spirit of sacrifice. Every family is called by God to have renewing experience of reconciliation with one another, among the family members.** - **3. In the family, special attention must be devoted to the children by developing a profound self-esteem for their personal dignity , and respectful concern for their rights.** # **Topic 5: INNER PEACE OF MAN** - **1. Peace among 9 nations and among people of different cultures and creed should strive their very best to achieve respect and tolerance for one another. This will result in global peace, global solidarity among nations.** - **"Peace is not merely the absence of war but the presence of justice, of law, of order--in short, of government." -Albert Einstein** - **"Peace begins with a smile." - Mother Teresa** - **What is PEACE?** - **Peace is a state of harmony characterized by the lack of violence, conflict behaviors and the freedom from fear of violence.** - **Commonly understood as the absence of hostility, peace also suggests the existence of healthy or newly healed interpersonal or international relationships, prosperity in matters of social or economic welfare, the establishment of equality, and a working political order that serves the true interests of all.** - **Peace-is a state of calm and quiet, free from disturbing thoughts or emotions.** - **Tolerance is the act or practice of sympathy and indulgence for beliefs or practices differing from one's own.** - **God, our creator as the source of our inner strength. Whether at home or at work, an individual's needs and values constantly and invariably come into opposition with those of other people. Some conflicts are relatively minor, easy to handle, or capable of being overlooked.
