EXPLORING MY PASSION UNIT 4 ( LESSON 15) Work plays a significant role in the lives of people, and adolescence is a time when you begin to explore your career options and set a course for establishing career. Five stages of career development that an adolescent undergoes (Lumen Learning n.d.). GROWING STAGE First is the growing stage or a time when you start realizing that what you do now is connected to your future. It happens around 4-13 years old as you begin to understand that certain tasks and goals are linked to place in the world. EXPLORIN G STAGE As you step into your teenage years, you reach the exploring stage. This is where your interest and talents start to become more apparent. You can now see and figure out what you are good at and what subjects or activities really get you excited. ESTABLISHING STAGE As you hit your twenties and beyond, you move to establishing stage. This is when you start to focus on a field that feels right for you. You’re looking for stable job opportunities, maybe thinking about advance degrees, and aiming for that upward growth in your career. MAINTAINING STAGE This stage typically forms in your mid-forties to mid-sixties. You’re in a phase of learning new skills and staying engaged in your field, but might also be merely “coasting and cruising” or even feeling stagnant. REINVENTING STAGE Finally, reinventing stage usually kicks in around your mid-sixties. Retirement might be on the horizon, but this can actually be a time for exciting new beginnings as well. The peak of technology provides avenue where you can teach, volunteer, do online business or even open consultancy. WHAT IS CAREER GOAL?
