STAGE 6 Unit focus: A Fairy Gruesome Murder Text focus: Playscript Evidence A: Court Transcript EVIDENCE A: COURT TRANSCRIPT OF DECEMBER 1ST. MR “BIG BAD” WOLF IS GIVING EVIDENCE. LAWYER Mister Wolf. Do you swear that what you are about to tell us is the whole truth? WOLF This is nonsense. I didn’t kill that pig! LAWYER Mister Wolf? WOLF I do. LAWYER Can you start by telling the jury where you were on the night of October 31st? WOLF I was out trick-or-treating. LAWYER And where were you at 9pm? WOLF I was walking to the three little pigs’ house. LAWYER The house where poor Reginald Pig was callously murdered by yourself? WOLF I didn’t kill him, I tell you. I don’t know how he fell into that boiling pot of water. You said he was all resources ©2021 Literacy Shed http://www.literacyshedplus.com killed at 9 o’clock? I didn’t arrive until nearly quarter past! LAWYER How do you know that, Mister Wolf? WOLF I looked at my watch. LAWYER The same watch you are wearing now? WOLF Yes. LAWYER What’s the time, Mister Wolf? WOLF Three o’clock. LAWYER What’s the time, Mister Wolf? WOLF I don’t know! LAWYER You don’t know because your watch is broken, isn’t it? So how do you know when you arrived? WOLF It only broke yesterday, while I was in prison. I promise! LAWYER We’ll come back to that, later. We have witnesses who saw you climbing down their chimney just before his body was found. How do you explain that? WOLF I told you: I was trick-or-treating. Reginald Pig opened the door and slammed it in my face when he saw it was me. I went away for a while, and then I decided to play a trick on him by climbing down the chimney to scare them. all resources ©2021 Literacy Shed http://www.literacyshedplus.com LAWYER How convenient, Mister Wolf. One witness said that they had heard you threatening to eat Mister Pig and his brothers in the greengrocers, last week. WOLF That’s a lie! I was going to do it in the butchers. LAWYER No, Mister Wolf. They heard you say it in the greengrocers. I don’t suppose they knew where you were going to consume them. WOLF Coughs and looks embarrassed No comment. LAWYER We cannot forget the fact that Miss Red Riding Hood identified you as the brute who ate her grandmother. Apparently, the old dear hasn’t been the same since. WOLF That definitely was a misunderstanding. LAWYER How so? WOLF It was my brother that ate her. He was convicted! LAWYER So, murder runs in the family? No need to answer that, Mister Wolf. Turns and addresses the jury. Ladies, gentlemen, fairies and wicked stepmothers of the jury. I present to you Mister Wolf. He has said himself that he was in the house at the time of the murder. Are we to believe that he was merely a prankster in the wrong place at the wrong time? Or is it more likely that he climbed down that chimney to right a wrong, and probably steal some Halloween goodies? You are all intelligent people, and I am sure you will come to the correct verdict. Mister Wolf is guilty of the murder of Reginald Pig. all resources ©2021 Literacy Shed http://www.literacyshedplus.com RETRIEVAL FOCUS 1. Who has been murdered? 2.
