Building Information Modelling (BIM) - It is the digital modelling tool of a building, used to increase efficiency and streamline the process, also helps to enhance planning and construction quality. - BIM is a process, a methodology, for project teams to interface with technology to deliver better project outcomes in the AEC market. - BIM Following are the makers of BIM software: 1. Autodeck 2. GRAPHI SOFT 3. Bentely Systems - It is a useful tool for civil and structural engineers, architects, contractors, building officials, government officials, detailers, and fabricators to improve documentation, minimize errors. ## 2) Revit - It is also commonly known as Autodesk Revit Architecture. - It is a robust architectural design and documentation software. - Autodesk Revit is a building information modeling software for architects, structural engineers, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineers, and contractors. - The original software was developed by Charles River Software, founded in 1997. - Renamed Revit Technology Corporation in 2000 and acquired by Autodesk in 2002. - The software automatically updates floor plans, sections, level, and 3D views. - It adds architectural elements to the building model, such as walls, doors, windows, and components. - It is used to access the building information from a database of building models. ## 3) ETAB - ETAB stands for Extended 3D Analysis of Building System. - It is a finite element analysis software. - It is developed by Computers and Structures, Inc. (CSI). - It is used for the analysis and design of both static and dynamic structures. - It can easily convert CAD drawing directly into ETABS models. - It allows an unlimited number of load cases and combinations. - ETABS will automatically generate and apply seismic and wind loads based on various domestic and international codes. ## 4) STAAD.Pro - It is 3D Structural Analysis and Design Software. - STAAD is a comprehensive structural finite element analysis and design application that allows users to perform analysis on any structure exposed to static, dynamic, wind, earthquake, thermal, and moving loads. - It is developed by Bentley Systems, USA. - It converts physical models into analytical models automatically. ## 5) Build-Master - Software for the design of Low-rise RCC buildings. - It is a complete soft package for analysis, design, drawing, and estimation of RCC buildings. - Single centre line plan of the beam shall be drawn at each level within Build-Master or AutoCAD compatible DXF files. - It calculates earthquake & wind loads and does equivalent static analysis of the building frame. - It designs RCC beams & slabs at every level and then designs columns & footings as well. - It also estimates quantities of concrete and rebar steel. ## 6) HEC-RAS - Hydrologic Engineering Center's -River Analysis System (HEC-RAS). - This software allows the user to perform one-dimensional steady flow, one and two-dimensional unsteady flow calculations, sediment transport, and water temperature/water quality modeling. - It is used for modelling water flow through systems of open channels and computing water surface profiles. - It is capable of modelling subcritical, supercritical, and mixed flow regime flow along with effects of bridges, culverts, weirs, and structures. ## 7) Tekla - Tekla Structures is used in the construction industry for steel and concrete detailing, precast and cast in-situ. - The software enables users to create and manage 3D structural models in concrete or steel. - It is used in approximately 20 languages. - It is used to design stadiums, bridges, plants, factories, residential buildings, plants, offshore structures, skyscrapers etc. ## 8) Water GEMS - It is Water Distribution Management System. - GEMS- Geospatial Engineering Modeling System - It is developed by Bentley Systems, USA. - It is a software which provides a solution for modeling, analysis, and design of water distribution systems. - In short, it is used for managing and optimizing water distribution networks. ## 9) Clear Estimate - It is construction estimating software. - It is used by construction contractors for preparing estimations. - It is developed by Nolan Orefield. - It can be accessed through any web browser on mobile devices. - It produces a library which consists of labour cost, material cost, and a product details and description of each item. ## 10) Estimate Master - It is also used as construction estimating software. - It is developed by Coon Creek Software. - It can be used with or without Quickbooks. - It can use the data from previous projects. - There is quick and easy estimate creation. - It can be used to create a formal bid or proposal documents. ## 11) Quick Grid - It is free software for data users. - It has special extension for Google chrome. - 2D or 3D grids can be created from a set or scattered data with the extension of Google chrome. - It is a program which will read a set of scattered data points (x, y, z) that represent a surface. - The program will generate a grid from this data and then display the surface as a contour map, or as a 3D representation. - Quick Grid is a simple and efficient grid component built by the Blazor team. - Output is DXF file. - Contour maps can be prepared from the use of quick grid. ## 12) SAFE - SAFE (Slab Analysis by the Finite Element Method) is the best tool for designing concrete slabs and foundations. - It is developed by Computer and Structures, Inc. (CSI) - It can adopt slabs or foundations of any shape. - Generating detailed plans, sections, elevations, schedules, and tables and it can be printed. - Flat slab, two-way slab, waffle, and ribbed framing system can be analyzed and designed. ## 13) 3D Architect Home - It is Home Design application software. - It is used to draw plans, lay out, and decorate the house, the apartment, or garden of your dreams, and display the results in 3D with an ultra-realistic rendering. - It is also used for testing the safety and design potential of buildings. - It is also used for technical plans, such as electrical networks, heating, plumbing installations, air conditioning, ventilation etc. - It is used by self-builders, architects, home improvers, property developers, interior designers etc. - It can be used to make garden design and landscape. - It can be used to select and compare various textures and materials, such as bricks, pebbles, stone, tiles, murum etc. ## 14) Building Management System (BMS) - It is used to save water and energy by controlling rainwater harvesting, and landscape irrigation. - BMS software is a useful suitable tool to control or monitor lifts, elevators, fire alarm systems, CCTV (Closed-Circuit Television). - Such software can be used for energy conservation and environmental sustainability. ## 15) Civil 3D - The software was originally developed as an AutoCAD add-on by a company Softdesk (originally DCA). - Softdesk was acquired by Autodesk, and Civil 3D was further evolved. - Civil 3D includes tools for: 1.
