EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION Lecturer: Mr. Sunny Mark C. Tesio What have you noticed in the video? What can we do to avoid misunderstanding or miscommunication? How will you use your knowledge and competence about communication skills to promote peace in your community? EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION The process of transferring or transmitting ideas, information, thoughts, knowledge, data, opinions, or messages from the sender to the receiver through a chosen method or channel with a clear goal in mind is referred to as effective communication. Both the speaker and the listener are satisfied by the process of effective communication. As the sender receives a reaction or piece of feedback from the receiver, the process is cyclical and begins and ends with the sender. THE 7 C’S OF EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION THE 7 C’S OF EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION COMPLETENESS: requires that the message contains ALL THE NECESSARRY facts and information that our audience need to know for the reaction we desire. If the information is incomplete, it will not convince the audience and produce desirable result. CONCISENESS: means conveying the message with brevity and REMOVING words that make it confusing. Avoiding wordiness and eliminating unnecessary words are some of the ways in observing conciseness in speaking or writing. THE 7 C’S OF EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION CONSIDERATION: is taking into account the audience’s needs and welfare in mind. Speakers show consideration by keeping the audience in mind when writing or delivering the message. CLARITY: is observed when the purpose for writing is clearly stated when speaking or writing. The readers should understand every component of the message, hence there’s a need for the sender to make sure that the message being delivered is clear. THE 7 C’S OF EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION CONCRETENESS: pertains to the specific use of words when speaking or writing. Concrete terms are considered to be more accurate and believable. COURTESY: requires that the message conveys a positive tone and promotes goodwill to the readers. The language should be gender and culture inclusive and must use proper titles to the people being referred to. THE 7 C’S OF EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION CORRECTNESS: requires that the message should observe accurate and appropriate language. It should be well-written and observe the requisites of effective writing and speaking. This involves correct grammar, punctuation, pronunciation, and format as well as the accuracy of the information.
