# Value of Time No one can deny the importance of time especially in our modern world. We all know that God has provided us with a certain span of time i.e. the duration of our life. We have to discharge all our responsibilities in such a short span of time. Children generally do not care for time. But, they should remember that this period, is the golden period of their life. This is the period when they can shape their career, their personality and their life according to their desires. If they fail to do so, they will have to accept what others give them. So, every one should understand the value of time. We should do our work in time. We should not waste our important time. If you lose one hour, you would not get this one hour in your life again. It is rightly said, "Time and tide wait for none." It means every one should do his work in time otherwise he may not get time to do that work. # Think Wisely Suppose your teacher gives your class a learning work. Next day in class all the students tell the teacher what they had learnt. But you do not tell anything as you have not learnt the topic. The teacher gives another topic to learn. Will you get another extra day to complete both the home works? No, you will have to complete both your tasks on the same day. Now tell me who will learn better, other students of your class or you? You cannot learn both the topics properly because of extra pending work. In this way you will be running behind other students. Therefore, you should complete your work in prescribed period of time. Some children start preparing for exams when they are left with a few days for the preparation. These children study day and night but they fail to do better in their examinations. A child who studies for a few hours regularly always does better in his exams. You might have heard the story of a rabbit and a tortoise. The story illustrates that slow and steady wins the race. Therefore you should give importance to time. # Do It Yourself Children generally get confused about what to do and at what time. It is because they do not follow a routine. So they fail to set their work on the scale of priority. Some children read the same subjects many times and leave the other subjects untouched. Sometimes, they start playing when they have to study. But, if you make a time table for your work and follow it honestly you will certainly get rid of such kind of problems. So, prepare a time table for your daily work and follow it. # Read and Follow Amit was a bright little boy. But he neither read the lesson that was going to be taught in the class that day nor he studied or revised the topic which was taught earlier. There were three months left for his exams. He thought to himself, "I can prepare for my examinations only in a few days." Amit used to play with his friends till late evening. He generally got tired and did not study in the evening. He did not even arrange his school bag for the next day. He thought that he would do it in the morning. In this way he usually left one or two books at home in hurry. At school, he sat dumb while others read the books along with the teacher. He had to face difficulty without the book. So, he could not understand the chapter well. After coming back to home he went to play and followed the same routine. He thought that he had enough time for the preparation. Days passed by in a similar way. One day while playing cricket, Amit's foot got into a pit and he fell down. He had fractured his leg and was plastered. He could not go to school. He missed his classes for a month. Amit began to go to school but, he had missed a lot of studies and covering up the course seemed very difficult. He had to put in more time into studies and had so much to study everyday. He had to study all that taught in the past. There were only few days left for exams. The time table of the examination was set. He sat at his table to study. There were a number of subjects to study but the time was less. He tried to read and read and followed very less. He said to himself, "If I had studied daily and given more time everyday, I would not have faced this problem." Finally, he appeared in his exams but could not do well. # Conclusion What conclusion do you draw from the lesson? # Assignment Answer the following questions: 1. What is the importance of time? 2. Why should we not waste our time? 3. How can we utilize our spare time? 4. What was the reason behind the failure of Amit in getting good marks? 5. Do you give importance to time? # Pride: A Hurdle In Progress Pride is nothing but a thought of false superiority. It may lead to idleness and incapabilities. Sometimes, it may also lead to dishonour of other people. A man generally becomes proud when he gets excess wealth, power or a higher position. Such people are ignorant and cannot keep themselves content when they get something by the grace of God or by their good fortune. They should understand that pride is shortlived and it also creates obstacles in the path of further progress. You might have heard about the demon king Ravana. He was a great scholar, wise and a brave king. But his pride forced him to wage a war with Lord Rama. He abducted Sita and hence opened the door of his deterioration. Finally he was killed in the battle. Therefore, we should not be proud. # Think Wisely Some people reach higher position or earn a lot of wealth but after a certain period of time their deterioration starts. Why? It is caused due to the pride of the people. After getting higher position or a lot of wealth, people generally start undermining other people. They start treating them rudely. Besides, they also ignore their work and do not work hard as they did in their initial stage. So, people should not feel proud at any stage or condition in their lives. # Do It Yourself If you are a rich person or you are good at studies, you should not feel proud. You should be friendly with your friends and other people. You should think that your achievements are due to the grace of God. Then there is no reason to feel proud. If you behave with others in a well mannered way, they will also wish for your further progress. Besides, God will also help you in your further development. Pride also raises obstacles in one's progress. Whenever, a person feels pride, he generally does not think for his further development and hence his deterioration starts. Therefore, you should not feel pride at any stage of your life. # Read and Follow This story has been taken from the great epic, the Mahabharata. Arjuna was a great archer. He was also a great devotee of Lord Krishna. He often boasted of his devotion. He believed that he was the greatest devotee of the Lord in the world. One day Lord Krishna came to know of it. He said to Arjuna, "Arjuna! I have heard that you feel proud of your devotion. There are a number of devotees in the world." But Arjuna did not accept that anyone could be as great a devotee as him or even more. One day, Lord Krishna took him to the court of King Shibi of Varanasi. Lord Krishna made himself a hawk and Arjuna a dove. The dove entered the palace and the hawk followed him. The dove fell into the lap of the King Shibi. The hawk sat near him. The hawk said, "O king! This dove is my prey. Please return it to me as I am very hungry." On the other hand, the dove asked the king for help. The king said, "O hawk! How can I return it to you? Being the king I will have to protect it. You can have an equal weight of flesh for your food." But the hawk put a condition before him. He said, "It's all right! But, you will have to give flesh from your own body." The king agreed at once and asked for a sharp knife and a balance. He placed the dove in one of the pans and started placing his flesh cut from his thigh in the other pan. But the pan with the dove was heavier. King Shibi kept on cutting the flesh of his body. But the dove remained heavier. Finally, the king was about to cut his neck to be put into the pan. Just then Lord Krishna appeared in his real form. He brought Arjuna back to his real form too. Lord Krishna sprinkled some holy water on the king's body and soon the king regained his whole body. Lord Krishna said to Arjuna, “Now, tell me who is the greatest devotee?" Arjuna felt ashamed of his pride. # Conclusion What lesson do you draw from this story? # Assignment Answer the following questions: 1. What do you mean by pride? 2. Why should we not feel proud? 3.
