After the king Chandragupta of the Maurya dynasty and the scholar Chanakya defeated King Nanda, this play begins. In the first act of the play, there is a description of Acharya Chanakya's hut. In that hut lived Chanakya's two disciples, Sarang and Himanshu. Sarang was collecting firewood for a ritual sacrifice. They were arranging sesame and barley for Acharya's meal. Himanshu had a sharp blade of grass stuck in his foot and was limping. At that moment, they both heard the sound of crying. Somdatta and Rohini were residents of the Vikrampur region. They had accumulated wealth for their daughter Aparajita's wedding. But due to a theft, they came to Acharya Chanakya to seek a solution to this problem. At that time, Acharya Chanakya was in the inner sanctum, solving political issues. Sarang goes to call Acharya. After Acharya Chanakya arrives, Rohini was crying, saying that the necklace worth five hundred coins was stolen. After hearing Rohini, Acharya says that according to political law, the thief's hands will be cut off. The necklace was stolen by Ravi Sena. Ravi Sena and Aparajita's marriage had already been arranged. Ravi Sena's father had refused the marriage. Because of this, Ravi Sena had been very distressed and had not left the house for three days. Eventually, he found out that Aparajita's marriage had been fixed with someone else. Because of this, he stole the property to stop the marriage. He went to a well to commit suicide. Himanshu saw this and brought him to Acharya Chanakya. At that time, Chanakya had already sent Somdatta, Rohini, and Shikhar Sena to another room. For Ravi Sena's second offense, Chanakya wanted to mark his forehead with the symbol of a criminal. Rohini, Somdatta, and Shikhar Sena refused to say these things to Chanakya. Instead, they offered Acharya Chanakya a thousand coins. All of them together asked for Ravi Sena to be forgiven. In the end, Rohini decided to marry Aparajita to Ravi Sena.
