All current treatment protocols will remain the same including treatment at the ER and/or follow up with Meritas. The KCFD Medical director at Meritas will be the Designated Infection Control Officer (DICO) for KCFD. The On-Duty Field ADCs will continue to be the initial point of contact for any and all Infectious Disease Exposures and should be notified in the event of an exposure. Upon notification, the ADC will respond and/or consult with the KCFD employee(s) on the nature/extent of exposure. The responding Field ADC will leave the original State Form at the hospital; however, he/she now needs to take a picture (or scan/email) of both sides of the form and email immediately to [email protected]. Erin O’Neal is the Meritas Occ Med clinic director and will ensure the form reaches the DICO and KCFD Employee Health Advocate. Upon notification of a potential exposure, Meritas will assume management of the exposure, ensuring that our employees receive the correct care, that all necessary documentation/record keeping is in place, and that source patient info is obtained. The KCFD Employee Health Advocate will provide support as appropriate. If there are needs related to secure communication of the State Form, KCFD/City IT and Meritas will establish the routing. If internal KCFD follow-up is needed – e.g. determining which crews might have been exposed, etc. – the Quality Assurance office will provide the follow up. If Meritas is needing help contacting our employees, the Quality Assurance office will assist. For Hazmat exposures, the paper KCFD Hazardous Materials Exposure Report form also needs to be completed and turned in to the Hazmat division. The paper KCFD Communicable Disease Exposure Report long form is no longer in use.
