GUESS THE LOGOS DIGITAL SELF The act of browsing, checking, writing, etc. in the social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram have become part of the daily activities of most people. The digital world has brought us conveniences in everything we do. ADVANTAGE S WHEN WE NEED TO INQUIRE WHERE TO BUY SOMETHING, WE JUST “GOOGLE” IT. SHOPPING HAS BECOME MORE CONVENIENT BECAUSE IT CAN ALREADY BE DONE ON THE NET THE INTERNET HAS ALREADY TIPS ON HOW TO ADDRESS ISSUES AND HANDLE PERSONAL VALUES IT IS HELPFUL FOR THOSE WHO HAVE RESEARCH SUBJECTS FOR FINDING REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE THESE ARE ALREADY ACCESSIBLE ON THE NET WITHOUT YOU NEEDING TO GET SOMEWHERE DISADVANTA GES WHEN WE LOOK AROUND IN THE MALL, IN THE SCHOOL AND EVEN HOUSES ❖ PEOPLE ARE BECOMING LESS INTERACTIVE ❖ PEOPLE WHO ARE BUBBLY AND SOCIABLE HAVE BEEN SILENTLY CHECKING THEIR PHONES, GIGGLING OR SMILING ON WHAT THEY SEE ON THEIR PHONES INSTEAD OF TALKING TO PEOPLE THEY ARE WITH AT THE MOMENT ❖ PEOPLE ARE MORE PRONE TO BELIEVING FAKE NEWS AND CONSPIRACY THEORIES INSTEAD OF VALIDATING IF INFORMATION GIVEN ARE RELIABLE AND FACTUAL. Based on different studies individuals are prone to create digital identities which are different from their “real selves”. ROLE IDENTITIES -the characters and roles that an individual creates as a member of a particular group “The self is composed of identities ranked by importance”. -the greater the commitment of an individual to a particular identity, the greater the importance of this identity. DIGITAL IDENTITY ~the identity the person claims in cyberspace. ~allows a person to be a part of a virtual community that goes beyond physical and geographical boundaries. ~It is when one is able to leave footprints through post made in social media platforms, online names, friends acquired, likes, comments and shares. However, participation in virtual environments may entail changes that may affect a person’s sense of self: ∙ People are capable of creating multiple digital identities ∙ People are likely to behave differently when engaged in interactions on social media ∙ It enables individuals to adopt identities independent of one’s physical image ∙ People can redefine themselves on the internet ∙ Assumptions on the virtual world are different from the real life ∙ It enables people to create fake identities by creating different social media accounts to hide the “real self” ∙ People who resort to creating fake digital identities may do inappropriate acts without being identified ONLINE DISINHIBITION EFFECT when people adopt fake identities, they are likely to engage in behaviors that they would not do in the real-life interactions BENIGN DISINHIBITION It occurs when people self-disclose more on the internet than they would in real life or go out of their way to help someone or show kindness TOXIC DISINHIBITION It occurs when people use rude language, bully, threaten others on social media platforms, and go to websites with contents of violence, crime and pornography MANAGING RESPONSIBLE ONLINE BEHAVIOR It is important to regulate online behavior. “Cyber bullying happens because of individuals who display irresponsible and inappropriate online behavior”. THE FOLLOWING ARE SOME SUGGESTIONS ON HOW CAN ONE BEHAVE RESPONSIBLY ONLINE ~DO NOT POST OR SEND ANYTHING THAT WILL EMBARRASS YOU ~AVOID POSTING STATEMENTS WHEN EXPERIENCING STRONG EMOTIONS ~DO NOT HANG OUT WITH THE “WRONG CROWD” ONLINE ~DO NOT HANG OUT WITH THE” WRONG CROWD” OFFLINE ~BE CAREFUL WITH OVERSHARING, ESPECIALLY CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION THAT MAY BE USED IRRESPONSIBLY ~RESPECT OTHER PEOPLE IN THE ONLINE COMMUNITY THUS, PEOPLE SHOULD EXERCISE DECORUM ONLINE, IN THE SAME WAY THEY EXERCISE DECORUM IN REAL LIFE TIPS TO CONSIDER WHEN SHARING INFORMATION ONLINE 1. BE KIND Use kind words if you post or make a comment on your friends’ post. 2.THINK BEFORE YOU POST AND/OR SHARE PHOTOS, VIDEOS AND COMMENTS ONLINE These cannot be taken back once you do it. The information you post and/or share may be used against you in the future. 3.CAREFULLY CHOOSE YOUR ONLINE FRIENDS If you don’t know them, don’t accept their friend request. It is safe to only accept friend request from friends in the real world OPEN YOUR CAMERAS AND DO THE FOLLOWING REACTIONS ACCORDING TO THE SITUATION STATED APPRORIATE OR THE END
