Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery: Is the specialty of dentistry which includes the diagnosis, surgical and adjunctive treatment of diseases, injuries and defects involving both the functional and esthetic aspects of the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial region. It’s a specialty concerned with in treating diseases, injuries and defects in the head, neck, face, jaws and the hard and soft tissues of the oral (mouth) and maxillofacial (jaws and face) region. 2. Periodontics: Is the specialty of dentistry that studies supporting structures of teeth, as well as diseases and conditions that affect them. 3. Prosthodontics: Is the dental specialty primarily concerned with the restoration and replacement of lost or damaged teeth. 4. Orthodontics: It’s a dental specialty that includes the diagnosis, prevention, interception, and correction of malocclusion, as well as neuromuscular and skeletal abnormalities of orofacial structures. 5. Conservative Dentistry: Is the branch of dentistry encompasses the areas of fixed prosthodontics, operative & implant dentistry, and endodontics. A. Operative Dentistry: Is the branch of dentistry concerned with restoration of parts of the teeth that are defective as a result of disease, trauma, or abnormal development to a state of normal function, health, and esthetics. B. Endodontics: Is the branch of dentistry concerned with the morphology, physiology and pathology of the human dental pulp and periradicular tissues. ** Asthetic Dentistry: Is the field of dentistry concerned especially with the appearance of the dentition as achieved through its arrangement, form, and color. The aim of aesthetic dentistry is to maintain the natural beauty of the dentition, it’s not about the perfect smile but rather about healthy smile that looks naturally beautiful. ** Cosmetic Dentistry: Any dental work that improves the appearance of teeth, gums and/or bite (but not necessarily the functionality). It primarily focuses on improvement of dental aesthetics in color, position, shape, size, alignment and overall smile appearance. Restorative Dentistry: Is the study, diagnosis and integrated management of diseases of the teeth and their supporting structures and the rehabilitation of the dentition to functional and aesthetic requirements of the individual. Restorative dentistry encompasses the dental specialties of conservative, periodontics and prosthodontics. 6. Paedodontics/ Paediatric Dentistry: Is an age-defined specialty that provides both preventive and therapeutic oral health care for infants and children through adolescence, including those with special health care needs. 7. Dental Public Health: Is the science and art of preventing and controlling dental diseases and promoting dental health through organized community efforts. It is that form of dental practice which serves the community as a patient rather than the individual. It is concerned with the dental health education of the public, with applied dental research, and with the administration of group dental care programs as well as the prevention and control of dental diseases on a community basis. 8. Oral Pathology: Is the branch of dentistry concerned with the diseases of oral and the structures around it. (Oral soft tissues, mucous membranes, teeth, jaws, and salivary glands). 9. Oral Medicine: Is the specialty of dentistry concerned with the oral health care of medically compromised patients & with the diagnosis & non-surgical management of related disorders or conditions affecting the oral & maxillofacial region. 10. Oral Radiology: is the specialty of dentistry concerned with the production and interpretation of images and data produced by radiant energy and used for the diagnosis and management of diseases, disorders and conditions of the oral and maxillofacial region.
