Delhi Public School Agra (Under the aegis of Delhi Public School Society, East of Kailash, New Delhi) CURRENT AFFAIRS – AUGUST Gautam Gambhir appointed India's new cricket head coach Former opening batsman Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as the new head coach of the Indian men's cricket team by Jay Shah who is the secretary of the board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He took charge of the series against Sri Lanka, including 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is which started on July 27, 2024. Paris Olympics 2024 A total of 117 Indian athletes including 7 reserves traveled to the French capital to take part in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games which began from July 26, 2024. The contingent comprises 29 members 11 women and 18 men from athletics followed by shooting (21) and hockey (19). Table tennis will be represented by 8 players, while badminton will feature 7 competitors including two-time Olympic medalist P V Sindhu. Wrestling (6), Archery (6) and Boxing (6) will have 6 representatives each followed by Golf (4), Tennis (3), Swimming (2), Sailing (2) and 1 each for equestrian, judo, rowing and weight lifting. Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh Scripted History with Bronze Medal Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh landed India’s second medal of the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024 as the shooting pair won bronze in the 10 meter mixed team air pistol event. Manu scripted history by becoming the first Indian woman shooter to win a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics. This is also India’s first Olympic medal in shooting team event. SpaceX’s Polaris Down Mission SpaceX, or Space Exploration Technological Corporation, an American aerospace company that designs rockets and spacecraft is preparing to launch its Polaris Dawn Mission on August 19, which is an important milestone for space tourism. This mission will feature Jared Isaacman, a billionaire from the fintech industry, who will make history by being the first private individual to conduct a spacewalk. Air India to set up South Asia's largest flying school in Amravati in Maharashtra Air India is building a Flying Training Organisation (FTO) at Amravati’s Belora airport in Maharashtra, which will be South Asia's largest flying training school and the first airline operated FTO in India. The project will cost over rupees 200 crores and the school is expected to train 180 commercial pilots annually. This announcement was made during the inauguration of the 46th session of the World Heritage Committee at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. MoD to undertake plantation of 15 lakh trees on Independence Day, 2024 The Ministry of Defence will undertake a massive 15 lakh trees plantation drive across the country on the occasion of 78th Independence Day ceremony on 15th August 2024. This drive is a part of the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, and will be conducted through the three Services, and associated organisations such as DRDO, Defence PSUs, CGDA, NCC, Sainik Schools and Ordnance factories. Captain Supreetha C.T. becomes first woman officer from AAD to be deployed at Siachen Captain Supreetha C.T. from Mysuru has made history by becoming the 2nd Indian Army woman officer and the first from the Corps of Army Air Defence (AAD) to be operationally deployed at Siachen Glacier. The Siachen Glacier which is also known as the world’s highest battlefield is located in the Eastern Karakoram range in the Himalayas.
