Indications Maternal Fetal Previous CS Fetal distress Previous uterine surgery Malpresentation Placenta previa / accreta Malposition Failed progress of labor Macrosomia Obstructed labor Severe intrauterine growth Medical conditions restriction Maternal request Types Lower segment – the RECOMMENDED procedure. Upper segment – Classical cesarean section. – Only in selected cases Categories Category Description Time limit 1 Immediate threat to the life of the 30 minutes woman or fetus 2 Maternal or fetal compromise that is 60-75 minutes not immediately life-threatening 3 No maternal or fetal compromise but No strict time limit needs early delivery 4 Elective timed to suit woman or staff Steps 1. Skin incision 2. Opening the anterior abdominal wall 3. Opening the uterus 4. Delivery of the baby and placenta 5. Closure of incisions Complications Hemorrhage (post partum hemorrhage). Infection. Shock. Trauma to the fetus Respiratory complications. Venous thrombosis (DVT). Post operative anesthetic complications e.g. Cyanosis, vomiting.
