It has a face that looks like a combination of a chimpanzee and a bat. The wingspan is 18-28 feet across and it is covered in gray fur. This cryptid eats fish and other animals, but it will sometimes attack humans. It was first seen in 1925 by a naturalist who was exploring an area of Java. It was again reportedly seen in 1927 by this same scientist. Over the years locals have also reported seeing and hearing this large flying cryptid. Beast of Bray Road The Beast of Bray Road is a hairy humanoid with canine features like a werewolf. It is also known as the “Bear-Wolf”, “Indigenous Dogman”, and “Eddy”. It has been reportedly seen in wooded areas of Wisconsin. The first sighting was in 1936 and sightings have continued through the present time. There have been many sightings of this cryptid, though some believe it to be a large wolf, bear, or large feral dog. This cryptid is only seen at night. It is commonly seen on nights when the moon is full and large in the night sky. Some people believe the beast is a shapeshifter, while others believe this cryptid always looks this way. There have been some grainy pictures of the Beast of Bray Road taken. Bigfoot or Sasquatch The Bigfoot, or Sasquatch, is a hairy biped that can be found all over North America, usually in heavily forested areas. Bigfoot is often described as standing 8-10 feet tall and covered in brown, black, or red hair. It is a biped. It has very large feet. Some people believe Bigfoot is a relative of Gigantopithecus or the Neanderthal man. Indigenous tribes have legends about Bigfoot. There have been thousands of sightings reported over the years. Many people report that Bigfoot is a gentle creature while some others report the creature tried to harm them. One of the most famous films of Bigfoot is from 1967 where a creature can be seen walking in a forest. Caddy The Caddy is a sea monster cryptid that has been reportedly seen in Cadboro Bay in British Columbia. It is described as a serpent-like beast that is 40-70 feet long, with two flippers, a long tail, and a camel shaped head. The first sighting of this large cryptid was in 1933 by a couple who were sailing on their yacht in the bay. There have been more than 300 sightings of Caddy over the past 80 years. A carcass was found inside the stomach of a sperm whale that looked like the sightings of this creature. A photo of the animal was taken, but the actual carcass was thrown away. Champ Lake Champlain Monster Lake Champlain is the Adirondack’s largest lake, located in New York, Vermont, and Quebec. Sightings of Champ have been reported for centuries. In 1819 Captain Crum reported seeing a black sea monster that was about 187 feet long, with a head that looked like a seahorse. There have been hundreds of sightings of this cryptid. Just in case Champ actually exists, it was made a protected species. Some photos have been taken over the years, but they are often blurry and hard to see. Cryptids are a very engaging topic in my classroom! There are a lot of articles, picture books, and passages that you can use in addition to these posters. Doing on-line research can be really tough for some of my intermediate students. These posters are a great way for students to get information about a lot of the cryptids that may be out there in the world! I print and laminate 2-3 copies of each one to have on-hand in our classroom. We use these posters when we are making our Cryptid Trading Cards. These can be found in my tpt store as well!
