LESSON 5 WHAT DO YOU THINK IS OUR TOPIC TODAY? CSS 11 LESSON 5 COMPUTER HARDWARE CSS 11 LESSON 5 HARDWARE the physical, touchable, electronic and mechanical parts of a computer system. CSS 11 LESSON 5 WHAT ARE THE MAJOR HARDWARE COMPONENTS OF A COMPUTER? CSS 11 LESSON 5 SYSTEM UNIT main part of a microcomputer, sometimes called the chassis. It includes the following parts: Motherboard, Microprocessor, Memory Chips, Buses, Ports, Expansion Slots and Cards. CSS 11 LESSON 5 SYSTEM UNIT LESSON 5 MOTHERBOARD The main circuit board of a computer. It contains all the circuits and components that run the computer. CSS 11 LESSON 5 MOTHERBOARD LESSON 5 CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT (CPU) The processor is the main “brain” or “heart” of a computer system. It performs all of the instructions and calculations that are needed and manages the flow of information through a computer. CSS 11 LESSON 5 CPU LESSON 5 PRIMARY STORAGE (internal storage, main memory or memory) is the computer's working storage space that holds data, instructions for processing and processed data (information) waiting to be sent to secondary storage. Physically, primary storage is a collection of RAM chips. CSS 11 LESSON 5 TWO TYPES OF MEMORY 01 ROM (Read Only Memory) ROM is 02 RAM (Random Access Memory) non-volatile, meaning it RAM is volatile, meaning it holds data even when the holds data only when the power is on. When the power power is ON or OFF. is off, RAM's contents are lost. LESSON 5 RAM LESSON 5 EXPANSION BUS a data pathway between several hardware components inside or outside a computer. It does not only connect the parts of the CPU to each other, but also links the CPU with other important hardware CSS 11 LESSON 5 CPU LESSON 5 ADAPTERS (also called interface cards) that enable the computer to use a peripheral device for which it does not have the necessary connections or circuit boards. They are often used to permit upgrading to a new different hardware. CSS 11 LESSON 5 Peripheral Component Interconnect Express LESSON 5 WIFI ADAPTER LESSON 5 POWER SUPPLY UNIT (PSU) Installed in the back corner of the PC case, next to the motherboard. It converts 230vac (standard house power) into DC voltages that are used by other components in the PC. CSS 11 LESSON 5 PORTS External connecting sockets on the outside of the computer. This is a pathway into and out of the computer. A port lets users plug in outside peripherals, such as monitors, scanners and printers. CSS 11 LESSON 5 CABLES & WIRES is most often two or more wires running side by side and bonded, twisted or braided together to form a single assembly, but can also refer to a heavy strong rope. CSS 11 LESSON 5 INPUT-OUTPUT- PROCESSS CSS 11 LESSON 5 INPUT DEVICE essentially a piece of hardware that sends data to a computer. Most input devices either interact with or control the computer in some way. CSS 11 LESSON 5 NAME ALL THE DEVICE THAT INPUTS DATA IN A COMPUTER CSS 11 LESSON 5 Most English language keyboards use the QWERTY layout for the KEYBOARD alphabetic keys, which are surrounded by number, symbol, function, and other key types. CSS 11 LESSON 5 A mouse interacts with a MOUSE computer through a process known as "point and click." CSS 11 LESSON 5 a common substitute for a computer TOUCHPAD OR mouse. It is essentially a specialized surface that TRACKPAD can detect the movement of a user’s finger and use that information to direct a pointer and control a computer. CSS 11 LESSON 5 a scanner is an input device that uses SCANNER optical technology to transfer images (or sometimes text) into a computer where the signal is converted into a digital image. CSS 11 LESSON 5 is used to capture video and WEB CAMERA still images. CSS 11 LESSON 5 allow users to speak to the MICROPHONE computer in order to record a voice message or navigate software. CSS 11 LESSON 5 OUTPUT DEVICE piece of computer hardware that receives data from a computer and then translates that data into another form. That form may be audio, visual, textual, or hard copy such as a printed document. CSS 11 LESSON 5 NAME ALL THE DEVICE THAT PROVIDES OUTPU DATA IN A COMPUTER CSS 11 LESSON 5 displays data from a computer MONITOR onto a screen so the user can interact with the data via a digital interface. CSS 11 LESSON 5 Printers take electronic data PRINTER sent from a computer and generate a hard copy. CSS 11 LESSON 5 output audio from a computer HEADPHONES through two individual headphones for a single listener CSS 11 LESSON 5 Speakers create sound using SPEAKER internal amplifiers that vibrate at different frequencies according to data from the computer. CSS 11 LESSON 5 As its name suggests, this PROJECTORS output device "projects“ computer images or video onto a wall or screen. CSS 11
