It espouses the ability to adapt. Pakikilahok (Act of Joining) - This translates to participation of the entire community to help a person ○ Pakikibagay (Conformity) - This runs into conflict with individuality which many Filipinos in fact willingly throw away in favor of conformity with demands of those who are in charge. Sikolohiya ng Pilipinas - Tumutukoy sa lahat ng mga pag-aaral, pananaliksik at mga konsepto sa sikolohiya na may kinalaman sa mga Pilipino Sikolohiyang Pilipino - bunga ng karanasan, kaisipan at oryentasyon ng sa Pilipinas. Samakatuwid, mga Pilipino lamang ang makakasulat tungkol dito Apat na Piliyasyon (Filiation) ng Sikolohiyang Pilipino Sikolohiyang Akademiko-Pilosopikal (Academic-Philosophical) - Nagsimula ito sa panahon ng mga Amerikano sa Unibersidad ng Pilipinas, ngunit malaki rin ang papel ng Unibersidad ng Santo Tomas at Unibersidad ng San Carlos sa pag-aaral ng ganitong klaseng sikolohiya. Madalas ay pilosopikal at teolohikal ang piliyasyon na ito. Sikolohiyang Akademiko-siyentipiko (Academic-Scientific) - Nagsimula rin ito sa UP at hinikayat ng piliyasyong ito ang mga akademiko na ituring ang pananaliksik bilang importante sa sikolohiya. Dito rin naging uso ang pagnanais ng mga sikolohista na magkaroon ng mga resulta na empirikal. Sikolohiyang Katutubo - Ang sikolohiyang katutubo ay hindi nagsimula sa isang unibersidad katulad ng nauunang dalawa dahil dati pa itong pinapraktis ng mga katutubong Pilipino. Nahahati ito sa dalawa. ○ Katutubong Sikolohiya - Tinutukoy ng katutubong sikolohiya ang mga paniniwala at karanasan ng mga katutubong Pilipino. ○ Kinagisnang Sikolohiya - sakop naman ng kinagisnang sikolohiya ang wika, kultura, at sining ng mga Pilipino (Kaluluwa at ginhawa). Sistemang Sikomedikal at Relihiyon - Nagsimula ito mula sa medikong relihiyosong gawa ng mga naunang babaylan at katalonan. Tinatalakay rito ang iba’t ibang sistema ng paniniwala. Ethic Psychology - major basis of SP for integrating Academic-Scientific and Academic- Philosophical tradition into a national tradition of Psychology and Philosophy. ○ Indigenous Psychology - kinagisnan and katutubong sikolohiya ○ Psychology of Filipinos - perceived ethnic traits, as observed by foreigners or as felt and expressed by Filipinos ○ Practice of Psychology by Filipinos - techniques of enculturation, socialization. Posisyon ng Sikolohiyang Pilipino ○On Psychological Practice - Concerned with folk practices, indigenous techniques of healing, popular religio-political movements. ○ On Science - concerned not only with the universal validity of psychological science but also in utilizing such for the purpose of serving the interest of all mankind, affording protection to the disadvantage ○ On Metalism - uses both phenomenological & behavioristic concepts, but lesser emphasis on individual experience and greater emphasis on the collective experience ○ On Analysis - Methodologically leans on the side of analysis but interprets the result of analysis with a bias for wholeness Approaches in the Development & Utilization of indigenous view points. Indigenization from Within - a process in which the knowledge and methods related to psychology are derived from the local culture - basis: Indigenous - direction: outward - Culture-as-source Indigenization from Without - involves searching for local equivalents for commonly used - basis: Exogenous - Culture-as-target psychological concepts. - direction: inward Perspectival and Interpretative Model Absolutist Position - assumes the basic congruence of psychological phenomena across humankind. Relativist Position - assumes differences across cultures, if not the uniqueness of each one Pangkami - assumes the utility of an alien frame of reference (reactive relativist) Pantayong Pananaw - assumes the absolutist indigenous perspective (ethnocentric) Universalist Position - implied by the kapwa and cross indigenous orientation of Sikolohiyang Pilipino. Assumes that basic psychological processes are likely to be common features of human life everywhere, yet their manifestations are likely to be influenced by culture. Emic Approach (Phonemic) - the need to understand a culture from its own perspective (using natural taxonomies) Etic Approach (Phonetic) - the discovery of psychological universal Metaphor - characteristic way of clarifying concepts • e.g. Sikolohiyang Pilipino is a ‘taong-bahay’ Social Interaction - expressing our thoughts and feelings. Spoken Language - From bodily gestures to linguistic acts, specialized speech apparatus, primary medium of communication. Research Approach Indigenous - A research approach that seeks to enhance awareness as one-with-the-other. Participatory - negotiate issues jointly as they arise Survey - conforms to an informal agreement with respondents Experimental - adherence to predetermined set of procedures Sikolohiyang Pilipino research Approaches and Techniques Pakapa-kapa - An indigenous research method characterized by groping, searching, probing into an unsystematized mass of social and cultural data to be able to obtain order, meaning, and directions for research. Panunuluyan - interaction techniques, levels of relationship mula paninimbang hanggang malalimang pakikipagpalagayang-loob. Pakikipagkwentuhan - An indigenous approach which refers to an occasion for exchange of information, ideas, insights, and opinions also it is a sharing of beliefs, thoughts, and experiences. Self-Oriented Model - A research model in which the data collector and contributors relate to the other only to the extent of waiting until the other stops responding. Reactive-Oriented Model - A research model in which the participants in the data collection are reacting to what is currently taking place between them. Experimenter-Oriented Model - A research model in which the data collectors appear to influence while only the data contributors appear to be influenced. Hiya - This trait reduces one to smallness or the "morality of slaves", thus concealing the soul of the Filipino and emasculating him, making him timid, meek and weak. Amoral Familism - emphasizes commitment to the family as a unit. Utang na Loob - This trait portrays the spirit behind the Filipino saying, "He who does not know how to look to the past will never reach his destination.“ Bahala Na - one leaves everything to chance under the pretext of trusting in Divine providence. Pakikisama - stating an unpleasant truth, opinion or request as pleasantly as possible so as not to offend others Integrity - Complete openness and disclosure of information must be balanced with other ethical considerations. Research Ethics Professional and Scientific Responsibilities to Society - include conducting its affairs within society in accordance with the highest ethical standards, and encouraging the development of social structures and policies that benefit all persons and peoples Respect for the Dignity of Persons and People - respect for the diversity among persons and peoples. Competent Caring for the Well-Being of Persons and Peoples -maximizing benefits and minimizing potential harm to individuals, families, groups, and communities.
