BOOLEAN ALGEBRA AND LOGIC GATES, COMBINATIONAL CIRCUITS (ADDERS, MULTIPLEXERS, ENCODERS, DECODERS) LEADER: Mark Christian Anthony Arsenue MEMBERS: Ivan Jeremy Sapnu, Clarise Anareta, Ariel Gumapac, King Cuaño INTRODUCTION Boolean Algebra is the mathematical framework used to describe the behavior of logic gates and digital circuits. Logic Gates are basic building blocks of digital systems, implementing Boolean functions. Combinational Circuits are systems where the output depends only on the current input, without any memory or feedback. AND OPERATION AND - operation is use for logical multiplication. The dot symbol (“ ”) used for representing AND operation. AND operator hs an ouput 1 if all the inputs are 1 otherwise the input is 0. OR OPERATION OR - operation is use for logical addition. - it has an ouput 1 if any of the inputs are 1 otherwise the input is 0. NOT OPERATION NOT operation is use for complementation. the over bar sysmbol ( ̄ ) used for represent NOT operation. NOT has an output 1 if input is 0 or output 0 if the input is 1. LOGIC GATES Logic gates is an elementary building block of digital electronic circuits that operates one or more input sinals to produce standard output. The common use of logic gate elements is to act as switch. In computer logic gates are use to implement Boolean function. COMBINATIONAL CIRCUITS is an interconnected set of gates whose output at any time is a function only of the input at that time. ADDERS A full adder circuit is central to most digital circuits that perform addition or subtraction. It is so called because it adds together two binary digits, plus a carry-in digit to produce a sum and carry-out digit. It therefore has three inputs and two outputs. MULTIPLEXER A multiplexer is a combinational circuit that selects binary information from one of many input lines and directs it to a single output line. The selection of a particular input line is controlled by a set of selection lines. ENCODER Is a combination circuit which is designed to perform the inverse operation of the decoder. An encoder produces an m bit binary code corresponding to the digital input number. The encoder accept an n input digital word and converts it into an m bit another digital word DECODER S Decoders is a combination of circuit that has n input and to a maximum m = 2n output. Decoder is identical to a demultiplexer without any data input.
