CM4203 Wk.08 Lec.02 Acedemic Integrity Guest Lecture – Fionn McGrath Acedemic Integrity: Compliance with ethical and professional principles, standards and practices when taking actions and making decisions in education, research and scholarship. Six fundamental values: Honesty Trust Fairness Respect Responsibility Courage Avoid: Getting someone else to do part of/all your work Paraphrasing without citing – or any form of plagiarism Using unauthorised sources such as Wikipedia Working with other students on an individual assignment - collusion Cheating in any way Using Generative AI without permission or acknowledgement Assessment Security: The extent of the measures taken to prevent misconduct/cheating in an assessment. For example, timing the assessment in an exam hall with invigilators. Assessment Validity: Making assessments more relevant to the type of work you will be doing in the workplace after university. For example, it is more likely to be asked do a presentation in the workplace than it is to write an essay. If in doubt, ask the lecturer/TA about the rules of the assessment. AI Assessment Framework: 1. No Gen AI 2. Gen AI assisted idea generation and structure 3. Gen AI assisted editing 4. Gen AI task completion with human evaluation 5.
