Therefore, students are expected to attend all classes. In the event that a class is missed, it is the student's responsibility to make up any missed work, as the student will be held responsible for all materials covered. Please be aware that significant amounts of important material will be discussed in lectures. Class Assessment, Attendance, Announcements and Make-ups: Students are expected to attend classes and actively participate in class discussions and online activities on KHAS LEARN, PEARSON MyLab and/or in CLASS. All required materials will be posted on KHAS LEARN, PEARSON MyLab and/or in CLASS. Students are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the platforms. All announcements and deadlines will be posted on KHAS LEARN, PEARSON MyLab and/or in CLASS. It is the students’ responsibility to follow them. Students are responsible for all lecture topics, work, assignments, and announcements whether they were present in class or not. Students are responsible for acquiring the information that they missed from class from their peers. All assignments should be submitted on KHAS LEARN, PEARSON MyLab and/or in CLASS on time. Late submissions will not be accepted. Instructor will take attendance in lectures. These class rosters will serve as official documentation that you were in class. Students should arrive in a class on time. If necessary at any time, seating adjustments will be made for academic reasons only. Students are expected to attend all quizzes, homework assignments, assessments and classes. Students who miss any assignments and/or assessments MUST submit a medical report/proper paperwork/official excuse document; otherwise, they are NOT entitled to any make-up. Students should make every effort to keep current with course material so that they are prepared to take class- assessments on the day(s) that they are scheduled to occur. Classroom Conduct: All electronic devices must be off during the class time. This includes cell phones, beepers, and any other monitor or electronic devices. If you must leave your electronic device on, please set it to vibrate and leave the classroom to deal with calls. When others are speaking, please do not talk, text, or web-surf during class. You are cheating yourself and disturbing your classmates. You will be asked to leave if you cannot comply this rule. Please do not harass, mock or make snarky comments about your classmates. Everyone has the right to feel free enough in the classroom to ask questions and safe enough to risk making mistakes. If you engage in this kind of behavior, you will be asked to leave the class and referred to the Student Affairs. Academic Honesty: It is the aim of the faculty of KHAS to foster a spirit of complete honesty and high standard of integrity. The attempt of students to present as their own any work not honestly performed is regarded by the faculty and administration as a most serious offense and renders the offenders liable to serious consequences, possibly suspension. PLAGIARISM: "Academic Dishonesty includes, but is not limited to, the following: Cheating on examinations. Plagiarism, the representing of another's ideas or writing as one's own, including but not limited to: Presenting all or part of another person's work as something one has written; Paraphrasing or summarizing another's writing without proper acknowledgment; Representing another's artistic or technical work or creation as one's own; Preparing technical work or creation of all assignments using AI/ChatGPT or any other sources (see the NOTE below)." Students who plagiarize on assignments or copy from other students will receive zero for the assignment. CHEM101 will follow a "zero tolerance" policy for plagiarism, which is punishable by failure of the assignment/examination/project, or failure of the course. In extreme cases, students may be dismissed from the College/University for academic dishonesty. NOTE: Guidelines For Using Generative Artificial Intelligence in Class: Kadir Has University, in principle, allows the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) tools like ChatGPT as an auxiliary tool in courses, provided that academic integrity principles are adhered to. However, the course instructor has the authority to decide on this matter. In cases where the use of GAI tools like ChatGPT is not permitted for a specific course, these tools should not be used, and doing so will be considered an academic violation. Situations in which GAI is allowed will be explicitly stated before any assignments or projects are given. In cases where permission is granted, the work must indicate how GAI tools were used, and citations must adhere to proper referencing rules. Any use of GAI tools outside these instructions will be considered an academic violation. Please remember that the information obtained and used from these tools may be biased or incorrect. It is your responsibility to ensure the accuracy of the information you use. Beware that many GAI tools may incorporate any content you share into their systems and use it in various ways, so avoiding inadvertently sharing copyrighted materials, original works, or personal information is essential. If you have any questions about academic integrity, please contact me. For detailed information, please visit: https://www.khas.edu.tr/en/ethical-guidance-on-the-use-of-generative-artificial- intelligence-generative-ai-tools/ Discrimination Policy: KHAS prohibits sexual misconduct and sex discrimination by or against all students, employees, and campus guests. If you have any questions or concerns or if you need to make a complaint, contact Student Affairs. Please note: If you choose to report sexual misconduct or sex discrimination to a faculty member, that individual is required to report the incident (including the names of alleged perpetrators, and all the facts surrounding the misconduct) to University Administration. You may request that we keep your name confidential, but we may not be able to do so. If you do not want this information reported, you may share the information confidentially with counseling, advocacy, health, mental health, or sexual-assault-related services (outside the college).
