Currently, fewer than 40% of OT practitioners work in suburban and rural areas (BLS, 2022). More than half of occupational therapists (51%) work in offices or hospitals, followed by schools and early intervention centers (12%) (AOTA, 2020). Skilled nursing facilities tend to be the choice for practitioners pursuing secondary income. They view the biological, sociological, and psychological functioning of clients within the context of their environment. The workforce can be employed in an organization, self-employed, own a private practice, or practice in a combination of ways. OT is a growing profession with many career opportunities that currently exist and have yet to come. 17
