Festivals bring happiness, joy and brighten up our lives. LET’S CELEBRATE India is a land of festivals. We celebrate many festivals with fun and food. Festivals bring happiness, joy and brighten up our lives. Festivals are of three types- 1. National festival 2. Religious festival 3. Harvest festival NATIONAL FESTIVALS National festivals are celebrated by the whole country together. The three national festivals are Republic Day Independence day Gandhi Jayanti. INDEPENDENCE DAY Every year 15th August is celebrated as the Independence day. On this day, our country became an independent nation in the year 1947.The prime minister hoists our National Flag at the Red Fort in New Delhi. He address the nation and National Anthem is sung. REPUBLIC DAY Every year 26th January is celebrated as the Republic Day. On this day, in the year, 1950, India became a Republic. Our Constitution was drafted on this day. A CONSTITUTION is a set of rules according to which a country runs. A grand parade is held at Rajpath in New Delhi. The President takes the salute from the three armed forces. The National Flag is hoisted on all government buildings, offices and schools. GANDHI JAYANTI Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated on 2nd October. It marks the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi who is lovingly called Bapu. He is also known as the Father of the Nation. Special prayer meetings are held at Rajghat (his samadhi) in Delhi. Droupadi Murmu RELIGIOUS FESTIVALS HOLI Holi is the festival of color. It is celebrated with joy and fun. People sing and dance. They throw coloured water in each other. It marks the arrival of spring season. DIWALI Diwali is the festival of lights. It is celebrated to mark the return of Lord Rama to his kingdom after 14 years of exile. People decorate their houses with diyas, candles and rangoli patterns. They exchange gifts and sweets with friends and relatives. They worship Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi. Burning crackers makes the air dirty and unhealthy. It is also dangerous. We must avoid it. FACT FILE It increases different types of pollution like: 1. AIR POLLUTION: Air gets polluted because of burning crackers due to which people face breathing issues. 2. NOISE POLLUTION: Crackers burst with a loud sound which creates a lot of noise pollution which causes stress and headache in people of all ages specially old people and children. 3. LAND POLLUTION: Bursting excessive crackers and celebrations at large level leave a lot of waste and garbage which takes extra time to be cleaned and hence increase land pollution. 4. WATER POLLUTION: When crackers are burst near water bodies , the chemicals inside them dissolves into the water and makes the water polluted which effects the aquatic life as well. CRACKERS EFFECT ANIMALS Due to crackers noise animals may shiver, howl and bark excessively due to discomfort. Sudden burst near them can harm their body as well. I PLEDGE FOR Victory of Diya lights over smog’s darkness. Victory of resistance to burst crackers over evil of child labour.
