Cardiovascular System Treatment Modalities: PTCA: arteries dilated with balloon catheter to improve flow ( atherosclerosis ) - - - - Laser-assisted Angioplasty: heat vaporizes plaque - PCI: Stent:  Atherectomy: cutting chamber on the inserted catheter or rotating blade the pulverizes plaque - Transmyocardial revascularization- laser that creates 15-30 holes for heart Arterial revascularization- bypassing occlusion above the femoral artery - - - - Open heart surgery: coronary artery bypass graft - - - Cardiopulmonary Bypass System: CABG- will have chest tube, breath with the vent Potassium above 3.5 (4-5) Report drainage 100-150 ml per hour CARDIAC TAMPONADE- sudden cessation of drainage, jugular vein distention with clear lung sounds and pulsus paradoxus ( abnormal drop of systolic BP ) Heart Transplant- 2 unrelated P waves are noted on ECG No chest pain ( angina ) Take immunosuppressants for life
