T h e principal construction i s explained with the Installation Drawing (Appendix N 1018e): T h e t a p changer head (21), arranged o n the t r a n s f o r m e r c o v e r , contains a reduction g e a r and a spring-operated energy accumula- t o r f o r the diverter s w i t c h , a s t e p - b y - s t e p g e a r f o r the tap s e - l e c t o r , and the fixing parts o f the exiricable diverter switch unit. T h e t a p changer h e a d offers connecting facilities for a n outside p i p e w h i c h l e a d s t o t h e o i l c o n s e r v a t o r via the protective r e l a y R S 1 0 0 0 ( 2 6 ) o r , a s a drain pipe ( 2 7 ) , c a n b e u s e d f o r draining t h e o i l t a n k. It contains the vent p i p e s (28) from which residual gas caused when filling oil into the transformer can escape from under the tap changer h e a d. T h e suction pipe, however, i s only furnished when o r d e r e d. The mechanical drive i s effected from outside the tap changer head via the driving shaft end (25). One tap change requires 33 revolutions of the driving shaft. The diverter switch oil tank (31) located under the tap changer head separates the diverter switch and its oil from the transformer oil. T h e diverter switch unit (51), which can b e exiracted for revision purposes, i s i n the di- verter switch oil tank.
