GE2406 IN CONCLUSION In our interconnected world, the concept of global citizenship has become increasingly important. As individuals, our actions and decisions impact not only our local communities but also the wider international community. Understanding our ethical obligations as global citizens is essential for fostering a more just and peaceful world. Global Citizenship Global citizenship is the recognition that we are all citizens of a worldwide community, sharing responsibilities and benefits that transcend national boundaries. War and Peace War refers to a state of armed conflict between different countries or different groups within a country. Meanwhile, peace signifies the absence of conflict and the presence of harmonious relationships. Both concepts are the antithesis of each other, with some people remarking them in, perhaps, the most famous paradox from the ancient Roman author Publius Flavius Vegetius Renatus, “Therefore, let him who desires peace prepare forward.” Impacts of War Social Impact Economic Impact Environmental Impact War leads to displacement, loss Conflicts can cause severe War contributes to of lives, and the disruption of economic downturns, destroying environmental degradation. communities. Role models and mentorship Involving peace advocates and mentors to share their experiences and inspire students to take an active role in promoting peace. Collaborative Projects Group activities that promote teamwork and understanding help students learn to work together towards common goals. Peace education is part of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, specifically, the SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. It aims to promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all, and build effective, accountable, and inclusive institutions at all levels. Peace education directly contributes to achieving SDG 16 by fostering a culture of peace and non-violence, promoting the rule of law, and strengthening institutions. Successful peace education initiatives demonstrate 07 Handout 1 *Property of STI Page 2 of 3 GE2406 the impact of these programs.
