*Edwin Hubble -* Hubble graduated high school at the age of 16, and studied science and language at the University of Chicago. The call of astronomy pulled him in. Eventually he returned to UOC and just before he would graduate and go work on a massive telescope, WW1 started. When he arrived in England, the war was over, and he had the opportunity to study astronomy further at Cambridge, before returning to the US. He then joined the team at Mount Wilson and began work with the largest telescope in the world. Due to his experience and observation skills, he managed to establish some of the most important ideas in modern astronomy. His contributions: - - - - *Normal Galaxy Types* - - - - - - - - *Active Galaxies* - Considered "non-stellar", but not exactly the case. They have the normal output of stellar energy: peaks in infrared and visible light, but also have incredible energy produced in other wavelengths: mainly radio, etc. Class of galaxies in which some activity in their nuclei (centers) produce an enormous amount of energy in a small volume of space. Also known as Active Galactic Nuclei. - - - One similarity- small region in the center making lots of energy and jets. At their cores, a supermassive black hole. A more active black hole than other galaxies. Have accretion disks that rotate so fast and rip matter apart so fast, that insane amounts of energy are produced. Intensity of the jets will be high, as the jets have generated an insane gravitational force. Why do they think this;? - - - - All of these things together make the only logical option: a supermassive black hole. Another active galaxy - Quasars: - - - - - Formation of the universe - - - - - - - - - - - Fate of the universe: - - - Possibility of Life in The Universe: Consider this: The logical approach: the assumption of mediocrity. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Measuring the distance between stars - - - - - - - - - - - - - Structure & Organization in the universe. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
