Political Theory – it deals with the entire body of doctrines relating to the origin for, behavior and purposes of the estate. Public Law – it is the a law that deal with the: Organization of the government. Limitations upon government authority. Power and duties of governmental offices and officers. Obligations off one state to another NO. 1 SOCIAL SCIENCE W/ PHILIPPINE CONSTITUTION Subdivisions of Public Law: a. Constitutional Law – is the fundamental law of the land which defines the power of government b. Administrative Law – fixes the organizations and determines the competence of the administrative authorities which regulates the methods by which the functions of the government performed. Public Administration – focuses upon the methods and techniques used in the actual management of state affairs by the three branches of the government : Executive, legislative and Judiciary including all governmental offices whose function is to deliver services to tis people. NO. 1 SOCIAL SCIENCE W/ PHILIPPINE CONSTITUTION What are the Methods of Political Science? Several methods are available in the political phenomena. These methods are discussed below: 1. Deductive Method – this methods employs the drawing up of the specific conclusions from premises presumed to be infallible. 2. Inductive Method – this method proceeds to establish general truths upon the basis of known facts before such truths upon the basis of known facts before such truths are to be used as premises for specific application. 3. Observational Method –this method allows the political scientist to observe the workings of political systems and political processes. Historical Method – present and probable phenomena are interpreted by the political scientist based from his knowledge and observation of the past serving as backdrop. 2. Comparative Method – this method allows the political scientist to correlate economic, geographical, psychological, sociological data and other scientific phenomena. History – both political science and history look on events involving people from different viewpoints. A historian may discuss different Filipino upbringing against the Spaniards as entirely distinct events as there are different people, place and time involved. Each uprising is considered a historical event. While the political scientist examine carefully the patterns that they exhibit and adopts historical approach by way of employing knowledge of the past, when he seeks to interpret developments in the political scenario. So closely interrelated are political science and history that political scientist and historians regard “history as post politics, present history”. Geography – Conditions such as strategic frontiers, populations, expansionism, spheres of influence, and natural resources are some of the basic concerns of the political scientist and geographer. Political scientist utilize the geographical approach in explaining such political phenomena as the early growth and development if democracy.in other countries like Great Britain and the United States, as well as growth of communism in the Eastern European states. The emergence of Philippines as the first country in Asia to gain independence may also be explained by the geopolitical approach. NO. 1 SOCIAL SCIENCE W/ PHILIPPINE CONSTITUTION 3. Economics – Political science and economics are intertwined and reinforcing. They were originally coupled under the common nomenclature “political economy”. Economic conditions influence the organization, development and activity of states, which in effect modify or even prescribe economic condition. 4. Philosophy – Political Science and Philosophy coincide with each other in the realm of political theory. Many of the political theories of today like democracy, fascism, socialism, nationalism, communism, government, internationalism and many other are expressions of the personal philosophies of their exponents. Psychology – Political scientist are psychologist promote studies of the mental and emotional processes which specifically motivate the voting behavior of the individuals and groups. Psychology is useful in the examination of political issues like public opinion, group pressure, and propaganda. 6. Sociology – Sociology is the study of society viewed as an aggregate of individuals; while political science, with political aspects of a particular group of society viewed as an organized unit. Sociology is, thus, a fundamental social science of which political science is just as integral part. NO. 1 SOCIAL SCIENCE W/ PHILIPPINE CONSTITUTION 7. Jurisprudence – the science of law, is concerned primarily with the analysis of existing legal systems as well as the ethics, historical, sociological and psychological foundation of law. The law and state are inseparable. The “nature of law” or the “divine law” and of statue enacted by legislatures is indispensable to the political scientist. Political science provides law practitioners and jurists the knowledge and information on the nature of the state and government to have a better insight and understanding of the fundamental character of law.
