Prepared by / Mostafa Allam Demonstrator at Medical Surgical Nursing Department Povidone iodine solution Acetic acid Hydrogen peroxide Sodium chloride (normal saline) Glycerin magnesium Mixture solution Aloe vera gel Chlorhexidine 1- Action : Broad spectrum microbicidal agent. Uses :  Preoperative and post operative skin preparation.  Antiseptic preparation of the skin and mucus membrane of injections , Aspiration needle biopsy  Maintaining oral hygiene before, during and after oral surgeries. Side effects: Local irritation of the skin. Neutropenia Hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism. Nephrotoxicity and renal impairment 2- Acetic acid Concentration: 0.25% to 0.5% Action: Bactericidal against gram positive and gram- negative organisms Especially pseudomonas Side effects:  delayed re epithelization.  cytotoxic 3-Hydorgen peroxide 3% Action:  An oxidizing agent.  Disinfectant and deodorant.  Bactericidal with wide spectrum action against anaerobic bacteria.  Release nascent oxygen and oxidizing necrotic matter and bacteria. Indication:  Cleansing superficial infected wounds and ulcers.  Sloughs devitalized tissue. Contraindication: Deep open wounds. Adverse effects: Strong corrosive. Producing irritating burns on the skin and mucus membranes with a white scar. Creates local capillary embolism appears as a temporary whitening of the skin.  Ideal for topical irrigation and cleansing of wounds.  Has no antiseptic properties but dilutes concentration of bacteria in the wound in case of irrigation.  Promote epithelization.  Used for all types of wounds. 5- Glycerin Magnesium Action: Hydroscopic action applied to wounds without drying. Uses: For septic wounds. 6- Mixture solution Composition: 60% normal saline 30% Glycerin magnesium 10% acetic acid  Uses  for deep septic wounds.  Promote granulation. Uses:  Effective against salmonella and aerobic bacteria. Action:  Promoting wound healing by stimulating activity of macrophages and fibroblasts.  Anti inflammatory Action:  Promote wound healing of open wounds.  Active against gram positive and gram- negative organisms ,facultative anaerobes, aerobes and yeast.
