‫مصطلحـــــات طبـيـــــــة‬ ‫المحاضرة السادسة‬ ‫أ‪ /‬نهى العقاد‬ 2 The Suffixes (P) Term: -pepsia Meaning: pertaining to digestion ‫تتعلق بالهضم‬ Example: Dyspepsia : difficult digestion ‫عسر هضم‬ 3 The Suffixes (P) Term: -phagia Meaning: pertaining to swallowing ‫تتعلق بعملية البلع‬ Example: Dysphagia : difficult swallowing ‫صعوبة بعملية البلع‬ 4 The Suffixes (P) Term: -phasia Meaning: pertaining to speech ‫تتعلق بالكالم‬ Example: Dysphasia : difficult speech ‫صعوبة بالكالم‬ Aphasia: can not speak ‫ال يستطيع الكالم‬ 5 The Suffixes (P) Term: -phobia Meaning: pertaining to fear ‫تتعلق بالخوف‬ Example: Photophobia : light fear ‫الخوف من الضوء‬ Hydrophobia: water fear ‫الخوف من الماء‬ Acrophobia: heights fear ‫الخوف من المرتفعات‬ 6 The Suffixes (P) Term: -plegia Meaning: pertaining to paralysis ‫تتعلق بالشلل‬ Example: hemiplegia : paralysis of half of the body ‫شلل نصفي‬ Quadriplegia: ‫ شلل رباعي‬paralysis of all four limbs -- called also tetraplegia 7 The Suffixes (P) Term: -pnea Meaning: pertaining to breathing ‫تتعلق بالتنفس‬ Example: Dyspnea : difficult breathing ‫صعوبة في التنفس‬ Apnea : cession of breathing ‫وقف التنفس‬ 8 The Suffixes (P) Term: -ptysis Meaning: pertaining to spitting ‫تتعلق بالسعال‬ Example: Haemoptysis : coughing of blood ‫سعال مدمم‬ 9 The Suffixes (R) Term: -rrhea Meaning: pertaining to fluid discharge ‫تتعلق‬ ‫افرازات السوائل‬ Example: menorrhea ‫ حيض‬diarrhea ‫اسهال‬ Rhinorrhea : excessive mucous secretion from the nose ‫افرازات االنف‬ Otorrhea: a discharge from the external ear ‫افرازات‬ ‫االذن الخارجية‬ 10 The Suffixes (R) Term: -rrhage -rrhagia Meaning: pertaining to bleeding ‫تتعلق بالنزيف‬ ٌ Example: encephalorrhagia ‫نزف دماغي‬ Hemorrhage : heavy or uncontrollable bleeding ‫نزيف دموي‬ 11 The Suffixes (S) Term: -sclerosis Meaning: pertaining to hardening ‫تصلب‬ Example: Arteriosclerosis : a chronic disease characterized by abnormal thickening and hardening of the arterial walls ‫تصلب الشرايين‬ Atherosclerosis: an abnormal fatty deposit in the inner coat of the arteries ‫ترسيب الدهون في الجدار الداخلي‬ ‫للشرايين‬ 12 The Suffixes (S) Term: -stasis Meaning: pertaining to arrest or stabilization or loss ‫تتعلق بثبات او وقف‬ Example: Homeostasis : the maintenance of relatively stable internal physiological conditions (as body temperature or the pH of blood) under fluctuating environmental conditions.‫استتباب أو توازن‬  Enterostasis: loss of intestinal motility ‫توقف حركة‬ )‫االمعاء الدقيقة (ركو ٌد معوي‬ 13 The Suffixes (T) Term: -thermia Meaning: pertaining to heat or temperature ‫تتعلق‬ ‫بالحرارة‬ Example: Hypothermia : subnormal temperature of the body (under 36.6°C ) ‫حرارة منخفضة‬ Hyperthermia: high fever (rise of body temperature above the normal ) ‫ارتفاع درجة حرارة‬ ‫الجسم‬ 14 The Suffixes (T) Term: -thorax Meaning: pertaining to the chest ‫تتعلق بالصدر‬ Example: Pneumothorax : a condition in which air or other gas is presented in the pleural cavity ‫هواء بالصدر‬ Haemothorax : a condition in which blood is presented in the pleural cavity ‫دم في تجويف الصدر‬ 15 The Suffixes (T)  Term: -trophy  Meaning: pertaining to the Nutrition or growth ‫تتعلق بالتغذية او النمو‬  Example: Hypertrophy : excessive development of an organ or part ‫تضخم او ضخامة‬ Atrophy : decrease in size or lack of growth for a body part or tissue ‫ضمور في النمو‬ 16 The Suffixes (U) Term: -uria Meaning: pertaining to the urine ‫تتعلق بالبول‬ Example:  Polyuria: excessive urination ‫زيادة عدد مرات التبول‬  Dysuria: difficult urination ‫صعوبة التبول‬ Anuria : absence of or defective urine excretion ‫انعدام او قلة كمية افراز البول‬ 17 Abbreviations T.P.R Temperature, Pulse, Respiration B.P Blood Pressure C Degree centigrade F Fahrenheit B.M Bowel Movement CBC Complete Blood Count WBC/s White blood cells RBC/s Red blood cells 18 Abbreviations-Cont.
