"AI: A Revolution for Humanity or a Threat to Our Future?" Introduction On this day and age, artificial intelligence has become a part of our daily life—be it a simple google search or using AI as machines in factories. While others believe that AI can be beneficial in solving problems in various fields such as technology and medicine, some people worry that AI might be a threat to our future and start controlling themselves and take over the world. Artificial Intelligence also referred to as AI is a set of technologies that enable computers to perform a variety of advanced functions, including the ability to see, understand and translate spoken language, analyze data, make recommendations, and more. Some people worry that AI could at some point start controlling themselves and attack their owners or be weaponized and used to start wars, while others believe that it can be beneficial in solving problems in various fields such as technology and medicine. Artificial Intelligence and People's Lives According to Makridakis, “The goal of artificial intelligence includes learning, reasoning, and perception, and machines are wired using a cross-disciplinary approach based on mathematics, computer science, linguistics, and psychology” (49). Artificial intelligence is already playing a pivotal role in fields like medicine, science, engineering, advertising, and data analysis. Some of the advantages of AI include improved efficiency; which leads to increased productivity. Secondly, AI offers new techniques in resolving unique problems. In healthcare, for instance, AI systems can detect diseases earlier than the traditional method and personalize treatment plans. AI significantly boosts efficiency and productivity by optimizing processes and reducing the time and resources required to complete tasks. The Future of Artificial Intelligence Many customer care professionals are losing jobs. Their positions are being taken over by artificial intelligence. Studies show that over 85% of consumer relationships involve artificial intelligence-aided robots (Dirican 571). On the other hand machines with AI capabilities now do things previously restricted to the working of the human brain. Essentially, artificial intelligence allows a computer to learn and think (almost) on its own. Obviously, while AI can be trained to process and analyze data, it does not possess the same abilities as the human brain. Artificial intelligence uses what it learns to improve its approach. In other words, gets smarter and smarter. This can be good or could go terribly wrong down the road. Artificial intelligence is replacing many people in their jobs. AI is accurate, fast as compared to a person and it also reduces cost of paying employees (Korinek & Stiglitz 2017). These jobs are being taken by robots and increasing the rate of unemployment. Furthermore, AI lacks emotion and creativity that humans possess and increases potential for human laziness. Relying on AI can cause us to use our brains less to memorize, strategize and solve issues on our own. Conclusion Even though this technology is useful, there is the need to regulate its utilization before it becomes a threat to humanity. It is important to remember that AI can never completely replace the value of a human. In fact, AI and humans can make fantastic team. The solution finds itself is within a balanced societal approach by using the opportunities it presents while being protected from its negative consequences.
