Purpose: To develop a policy that ensures consistent and equitable EMS rotation for all Firefighter/EMTs and Paramedics. B. Background: A system of alternating assignments between Fire & Rescue units has been utilized to enhance training opportunities, provide a broad base of experience, and to permit Company Officers to more closely supervise their employees. This policy has also been developed to equalize workload among the affected personnel. C. Scope: This policy applies to all Firefighters and Paramedics. D. Author: The Deputy Chief of Operations shall be responsible for the content, revision and annual review of these standards. E. Objectives: To establish a rotation policy that is consistent and equitable between the LVFR Rescue units and other LVFR Suppression units. The overall goal is to ensure that personnel rotation takes place as noted herein; with the impact of time on rescue units being spread through the workforce in as equitable a manner as is possible. II. RESPONSIBILITY A. All personnel are responsible for following this policy and procedures as directed. B. It will be the responsibility of the Battalion Chief developing the roster to assign the appropriate number of Paramedics to staff all ALS units in each Fire Station. C. It is the responsibility of the Station Captains to monitor the rotation assignments and assure that this policy is followed. It is also the responsibility of the Captain to develop a written rotation plan. D. This plan shall be posted in a conspicuous location. 500.04 Rescue Rotation III. Page 2 of 2 POLICY A. Rotation schedules developed will be followed as written, without deviation based on daily transfers or assignments. B. The rotation schedules will be monitored by the duty Battalion Chiefs. Any variation to the daily schedule must be reviewed and approved by the duty Battalion Chief. IV. PROCEDURE A. All rotation schedules will be printed and posted in a conspicuous location in the respective station. B. Rotation schedules will identify the daily assigned positions for each member and daily replacements will be assigned in those slots respectively, to maintain a consistent rotation regardless of the individual assigned. C. All personnel assigned will be rotated through a 12-hour or a 24-hour rotation between the Rescue and other units as appropriate. D. Paramedics will rotate between ALS units only; EMT B and I level firefighters will rotate between all units in their respective station.
