NTCSS Release 2023-01 45_ATA42_Lv2&3_CAT B2_P_NOV18.pdf A400M Training Manual Integrated Modular Avionics SubSystem Description & Operations Normal operation IOM Normal Operation (I) In normal operating modes the IOMs work completely stand-alone without any specific human-machine interface. The IOMs are working by pair. It is said that the IOM-A 1, 3 and 5 are "mirror" of IOM-A 2, 4 and 6, and vice versa. In order to provide a high level of data transfer availability, any conventional LRU that exchanges data with ADCN uses both redundant “mirror” IOMs: - Any LRU receives each input signal from two mirror IOMs - Any LRU sends each output signal to two mirror IOMs, which transfer it to the ADCN. The Radio Altimeter system is made up of two LRUs: RA 1 and RA 2. Each one dialogs through a different couple of IOMs. Any message sent by the RA 1 is transmitted through IOM-A 1 and 2, whereas any message sent by the RA 2 is transmitted through IOM-A 3 and 4. The Primary Flight Displays receive the messages twice from each RA. The Primary Flight Displays implement redundancy management logics in order to select one message and to present unique radio altitude information. NTCSS Release 2023-01 45_ATA42_Lv2&3_CAT B2_P_NOV18.pdf A400M Training Manual Avionics Data Communication Network SubSystem - Description & Operations Detailed Description Concept of Virtual Link As an example, the figure illustrates data exchanges between one transmitter (CPIOM-E) and two receivers (CPIOM-G1 and SEPDC). Each ADCN subscriber has an input/output interface, the AFDX End System. This is the part of the equipment that encodes and decodes data (e.g. application data) to be exchanged with other subscribers through the AFDX switches. The AFDX End System duplicates messages in transmission by sending them simultaneously on both redundant networks A and B. Two AFDX switches, one in each network, route the messages to the appropriate receivers. In reception, the AFDX End System selects one of the two messages. This duplication increases the availability of aircraft systems data. The data exchanged by the ADCN subscribers are transmitted through predefined paths within the networks so-called Virtual Links. A Virtual Link is like a unidirectional channel within the networks. The routing depends on receivers (e.g.: application(s)) the emitter wants to send data. The Virtual Link: - Carries the data - Has a unique identification - Is sent by one transmitter only - Is received by one or several subscribers in receive mode - Is routed over both networks A and B through a specific path. Each ADCN subscriber can support several Virtual Links in transmit and receive modes. NTCSS Release 2023-01 45_ATA42_Lv2&3_CAT B2_P_NOV18.pdf A400M Training Manual Avionics Data Communication Network SubSystem - Description & Operations Detailed Description Interface with NSS and Other Systems For maintenance purposes, each ADCN component has a BITE function. The Network BITE Function (NBF), hosted by the NSS, is dedicated to fault isolation and reporting. It is a piece of ADCN software that provides network failure messages to the CMS. The NBF collects BITE information from all AFDX End Systems and AFDX switches. It also allows the CMS interactive test. Each AFDX switch has a fault discrete output connected to the FWS in order to determine the overall status of the ADCN. This information is used to trigger the failure alerts to the flight crew. The AFDX switches host field loadable software. For maintenance, the DLCS provides the software uploading capability. The data loading function is only enabled when the aircraft is on ground. The AFDX switches compute the ground condition from the discrete input signals: - “Weight-on-wheels” from the landing gear system - “Engines off” from the engine master levers. Each AFDX switch has a switching function, which provides inputs and outputs to other switches and ADCN subscribers. This function receives the Virtual Link coming from one emitter and routes it to the appropriate output port(s) based on the Configuration Table. The Operational Program is another piece of software that operates the AFDX switch. Both, the Configuration Table and the Operational Program, are field loadable. The discrete inputs/outputs provide pin programming and discrete signals exchanges with other aircraft systems.
