The effect of technological developments on staffing needs Miss Oades Learning Intention & Success Criteria Learning Intention: To understand the effects that developments in technology may have on staffing needs. Success Criteria: I can define key terminology I can explain the impacts technology has had on staffing Developments in technology e-business: use of the internet to conduct the full range of business activities Impacts on staffing needs New jobs are created that use new technology , while other jobs become redundant because of technology When introducing new technologies, some of the following workplace issues may arise; Existing employees may need to be trained to use new technologies New technology may lead to a reduction in staffing requirements Rates of pay may need to be adjusted to take into account new skills acquired by employees Staff are more likely to use workplace computers to carry out personal business during working hours. At the same time, many will carry out work- related tasks at home during their own time Laptops, tablets and smartphones have changed the nature of work. Employees have become more mobile and can carry out their tasks from almost anywhere.
