Speaking Vocabulary RCICALL03 Objectives: Acquire vocabularies used when having conversations. Use acquired vocabularies in conversation practice. Family and Friends Lifelong friend - a friend that you have had for most of your life. Progenitors - referring to parents or ancestors Shoulder to cry on - someone to symphatize with you. Family and Friends Close-knit family - a close family with common interests. Kinsfolk - relatives or family members. Extended family - uncles, aunts, and cousins form part of it. Family and Friends Immediate family - spouse, parents, children, grandparents. Confidant - a person with whom you can share your deepest secrets with. Acquaintance - someone you know but not intimately. Family and Friends Offspring - children or descendants. Stand the test of time - to last a long time. Patriarch/Matriarch - the head of the family or clan Family and Friends To enjoy someone's company - to enjoy spending time with someone. Kindred spirits - someone who shares similar interests, values, or beliefs. To hit it off - to like each other straight away. School and Education Sail through - not to have to work hard and to find things easy. Breakthrough - a new development. Paid off - was worth the effort. Remote - not being physically there/learning via computer. School and Education Postgraduate - having achieved a degree and now studying for a higher qualification. Undergraduate - someone studying a bachelor's degree Out of my depth - something is too hard School and Education Grant - financial support for education that does not need to be repaid. Student body - the collective population of a college/university. Graduate school - an institution where students pursue advanced degrees. Social Media Troll - a person who purposely creates offensive posts to arouse anger of other social media users. Meme - a humorous image or text that is easily sent over the internet. Anonymity - the state of being anonymous. Social Media Badger - to bother someone repeatedly. Derogatory - offensive, hurtful, disrespectful. Censor - to keep something from being displayed/published because of being offensive/immoral. Social Media Catfishing - the act of creating a false internet profile in order to deceive or scam someone. Grooming - preparing someone especially a minor in order to eventually commit a sexual offense. Impressionable - describes a person who is easily influenced. Answer these questions: Do you come from a large family? What will you do after finishing your studies? Why do some people choose not to use social media? Performance task: Group yourselves into 4. Write a dialogue and include 20 words or phrases from this lesson in it. Perform the dialogue in class. All members should be a part of the dialogue.
