Digestive system in human Digestive system is: It is the system responsible for Digestion. Digestion process is: It is the process of breaking food and changing it into chemical substances to get energy and grow up. 1.The digestive system function: 1.Get nutrients. 2.Get energy. 2.The human digestive system consists of: 1. Mouth 2. Pharynx 3. Esophagus 4. Stomach 5. Small intestine 6. Large intestine 7. Anus 1. Mouth parts 1. Teeth. 2. Saliva (is a liquid substance). 3. Tongue. Function of teeth: They break down and crush food while chewing. Function of saliva: 1. Digests starch into sugar. 2. Make the swallowing of food easy. Function of tongue: Mix food with saliva. 2. Throat (Pharynx): After swallowing, it pushes the food into the esophagus. 3. Esophagus The esophagus is a long muscular tube. Its function: Pushes the food into the stomach. 4. Stomach It is a muscular organ. Its function: Mix food with (stomach acid and digestive juices) to change the food into a soupy liquid. Note: Digestive juices are called enzymes. Food stays in the stomach for a few hours, then the stomach muscles push it into the small intestine. 5. Small Intestine It is a long, winding tube as its length is more than six meters. Its function: 1. Breaking food into simple nutrients by Pancreas and liver (juices). 2. It absorbs nutrients through the wall of the small intestine then carried by blood vessels to blood then to all body parts. Its function: It absorbs water from the undigested food, to become solid wastes that come out through the anus. How can you keep the digestive system healthy? 1. Chew the food well. 2. Don't eat fast food. 3. Drink a lot of water. 4. Do sports regularly.
