PMS plasma membrane Prof Dr. Safaa Said Dr. Ahmed Alm Cell components Cytoplasm Nucleus & Plasma (Organelles chromoso- membrane & mes inclusions) 1)Plasma membrane *The plasma membrane (cell membrane) envelops eukaryotic cells separating the cell contents from the surrounding environment. *The plasma membrane consists of: 1-lipids (phospholipid molecules & cholesterol molecules) 2-carbohydrates (Oligosaccharide chains linked to many phospholipid molecules called glycolipid or protein-molecules called glycoprotein) 3-proteins (peripheral and integral proteins) 2)cytoplasm Contain organelles (membranous and non-membranous) and inclusions *Membranous organelles Structure : Golgi bodies Site : epididymis Stain : silver stain The slide shows highly convoluted tube lined by cells (pseudo-stratified columnar- epithelium). Because of high convolution, the tube is cut in many segments of various sizes and shapes.*Golgi bodies appear as dark brown granules in the apical parts of the lining cells (towards the lumen). structure : mitochondria Site : liver Stain : iron hematoxylin The liver cells are polygonal, arranged in the form of cords radiating from the central vein.* The mitochondria appear as dark blue granular, rod-shaped or filamentous-structures filling the cytoplasm. The nucleus is also stained with Iron hematoxylin structure :RER (rough endoplasmic reticulum) Site : nissle granules of nerve cell Stain : HX & E *Nissl granules composed of RER and free ribosomes.*They appear as basophilic granules filling the cytoplasm of the cells. Spotty distribution of RER structure :RER (rough endoplasmic reticulum) Site : nissle granules of nerve cell Stain : toludine blue *Nissle granules composed of RER and free ribosomes.*They appear as basophilic granules filling the cytoplasm of the cells. Spotty distribution of RER structure :RER (rough endoplasmic reticulum) Site : in pancreatic acinar cells Stain : HX & E *Exocrine pancreas is formed of acini of various sizes and shapes. Cells are pyramidal in shape.*RER appears as basophilic striations in the basal part of cells while the apical part appears acidophilic. Localized distribution of RER structure :SER (smooth endoplasmic reticulum) Site : in lacrimal glands Stain : HX & E *The cytoplasm appears highly acidophilic due to SER
