He said, “Nikau, you go and help Uncle.” He smiled at Tama. “Tama, you can help me in the kitchen.” 2 3 I helped Uncle fix the gate. Uncle said, “Ka pai, Nikau. Mum and Dad helped Nan The gate is fixed. Good work.” in the garden. Aunty mowed the lawns, and my cousins painted the fence. Then my cousins called me. “Nikau! Come and help us paint the fence.” 4 5 I went back to the fence – but the paint was gone. “Where is the paint?” I said. “And where is my brush?” Mum laughed. “Look over there,” she said. We worked and worked. Koro and Tama came out with some kai. We stopped for morning tea, and then we all went back to work. 6 7 There was the paint – and there was Tama.
