HOFFMAN ESTATES FIRE DEPARTMENT STANDARD OPERATING GUIDELINES SOG Category & Identification Number: EFFECTIVE DATE: OPERATIONAL GUIDELINES – 011 January 1, 2022 NIMS COMPLIANT SOG Title: Notification of Code Enforcement Revision: 2 APPROVED BY: NUMBER OF PAGES: Re-evaluation Date: Alan Wax January 1, 2024 Fire Chief 2 PURPOSE In an effort to establish a more efficient method of posting buildings as "UNINHABITABLE", and to provide a consistent method of making a notification to Code Enforcement, the following guidelines will be utilized: DEFINITIONS POLICY When the Incident Commander determines that Code Enforcement should be notified concerning the structural condition, utility status, sanitation problem or other safety issue of a building, the Incident Commander will make the phone notification to the Building Officer or his designee: MAIN NUMBER TO CALL Ray Norton (Building Officer) Cell Phone: (847) 815-8072 RESIDENTIAL AND COMMERCIAL STRUCTURES Ray Norton (Building Officer) Cell Phone: (847) 815-8072 Jeff Mattes (Chief Building Inspector) Cell phone: (847) 815-3860 Home: (630) 513-9827 1 FOOD ESTABLISHMENT Dave Banaszynski After normal business hours: 224-600-4731 Cell phone: (847) 815-3856 Home: (847) 669-6786 HEAT COMPLAINTS Kathleen Kuffer Cell: (847) 815-8882 If a Code Enforcement representative is not available, recontact the office phone number and leave a detailed message that includes the following information: - Your name, department, date and time of day. - Building address and unit number where applicable. - Brief overview of the situation including a description of the problem and action taken by the Fire Department. Code Enforcement will determine which of their inspectors will follow-up with the building owner or tenant. The Fire Department can provide building owners or occupants with the phone number to Code Enforcement to allow for a means to follow-up. When the Incident Commander determines it appropriate, self-adhesive "KEEP OUT- UNINHABITABLE" stickers will be affixed to building exteriors and or building interiors. A minimum of 10 stickers are to be kept in the report box of each engine, squad and truck. If less than 10 stickers are found, the engineer is to request additional stickers through staff.
