WHAT IS ICT? WHAT IS ICT? I C T WHAT IS ICT? Information C T WHAT IS ICT? Information and Communications T WHAT IS ICT? Information and Communications Technology WHAT IS ICT? Information - refers to the ideas or concepts obtained from reading, investigation, study or research which are transmitted through media such as telephone, television and radio. WHAT IS ICT? Communication - is a means of transmitting messages or sending and receiving information between individuals using symbols, signs or verbal interactions. WHAT IS ICT? Technology - is the use of scientific knowledge, experience and resources to create processes and products that fulfill human needs. WHAT IS ICT? Information and Communications Technology - deals with the use of different communication tools such as telephone , mobile phones, Internet, etc. to locate, save, send, and edit information. ICT in the Philippines The Philippines is considered as the ICT Hub of Asia because of the tremendous growth of ICT related jobs like Business Process Outsourcing (BPOs). Mass Participation - Diverse information sharing through universal web access. - e.g. the use of social networking sites Web 3.0 - a.k.a. semantic web - upgrade of Web 2.0 - can accept requests from the user and create a solution considering the user’s preferences Features of Web 3.0 1. Real-time - Events and information are made available to users as they take place. - e.g. Siri answering on-the-spot Features of Web 3.0 2. Everywhere - The Internet can be accessed by users in all places - e.g. Smartphones accessing the Internet through mobile data plans Features of Web 3.0 3. Machine Learning - Computers and mobile devices can make decisions based on the user’s previous actions or preferences. - e.g. Searching the Internet for a restaurant near you TRENDS IN ICT 1. Technological Convergence - the synergy of technological advancements to work on a similar task or goal. - e.g. Phones nowadays are not just used for texting, but also for entertainment, photography, and calculating. TRENDS IN ICT 2. Social Media - a collection of internet-based communication tools and computer- assisted channels dedicated to allow users to collaborate, communicate, and share information or content in a virtual community and network. 2. Social Media 6 TYPES: 1. Social Networks Facebook These are sites that allow you to connect with other people with Instagram the same interests or background. X (formerly Twitter) 2. Social Media 6 TYPES: 2. Bookmarking Sites These are sites that allow you to store and manage links to various websites and resources. e.g. Pinterest 2. Social Media 6 TYPES: 3. Social News These sites allow users to post their own news items or links to other news sources. e.g. Reddit, Digg 2. Social Media 6 TYPES: 4. Media Sharing These sites allow you to upload and share media content like images, music and videos. e.g. YouTube, SoundCloud 2. Social Media 6 TYPES: 5. Microblogging These are sites that focus on short updates of users. e.g. X (formerly Twitter), Plurk 2. Social Media 6 TYPES: 6. Blogs and Forums These are sites that allow users to post content. e.g. Blogger (formerly Blogspot), Tumblr, WordPress TRENDS IN ICT 3. Mobile Technology - The popularity of smartphones and tablets has taken a major rise over the years. This is because of the devices’ compatibility to do tasks that were originally found in personal computers. TRENDS IN ICT 4.
