It was a windy day, where barrels of hay rolled, trees bent and little girls played. Dorothy had been out for a stroll with her dog Toto when, Toto noticed a cat in the yard of Ms Gulch. The meanest woman in the whole town! When she began to yell at Toto Dorothy Picked up Toto and ran! Dorothy tried to tell her Aunt and Uncle about how Ms. Gulch had treated Toto, and an awful threat she had made. But it was no use. It was spring which meant life on the farm was busy. and when it was busy, dorothy was supposed to stay quiet an out of trouble. She knew however three good friends on the farm she could always turn to. She smiles when she saw her friends. Three farm hands Hunk , , and Zeke ,. They had worked for Aunt Em and Uncle Henry for as long as Dorothy could remember. They were kind, and always willing to listen when Dorothy was sad, or wanted to tell a funny joke, or simply just to sit in silence but be with others. They greeted Her with warm smiles. But after just a moment of telling her story they had advice. And Dorothy tried to listen closely. Dorothy walked along the fence of the pig pen listening to Hunk’s every word. As she went to turn she lost her balance and slipped. Backwards she fell calling to he friends for help! After Zeke’s heroic dive into the pig pen to rescue dorothy, they all had a good laugh at his expense. Zeke loved his job but the pigs were known to bite and that was enough for him not to want to go near them. As they all giggled with glee, the laughing stopped short when Aunt Em came around the corner with a trey in hand. Dorothy had tried again to explain to Aunt Em what she was so worried about What Ms, Gulch had said she would do to Toto. But it was no use. Aunt Em was too Busy, and in her eyes Dorothy was just up to trouble. So, Dorothy picked up Toto and Gave him a bite of her cookie. As They walked away from the barn Dorothy began to speak to Toto as if he would be able to give her advice himself Dorothy and Toto sat There for a spell looking at the sun as it spooled though the clouds. Dreaming of a magical world beyond the rainbow. But coming up fast was someone Dorothy feared. Trouble was coming. Ms. Gulch insisted that she come inside and Speak to Aunt Em and Uncle Henry. She was angry that Toto had bitten her and wanted to make a case about what was to be done about it! Dorothy Listened in horor at was was being said. She had gone to the Sheriff and he had agreed to kill Toto. Dorothy could not stand there and not say anything she bursted into the room and pleaded to Aunt Em and Uncle Henry. Aunt Em was at a loss for words. However, even a woman as kind as Em could never say such things about another as she wished she could now. Dorothy ran to her room crying and slammed the door. Ms. Gulch put the baskent that carried Toto on the back of her bike and was off. She forgot to lock the basket! The End Of Chapter One
