Locking** - The breech or back end of the barrel locks into the slide. **4. Firing** - Ignition of the primer and firing the cartridge. **5. Unlocking** - Unseating the breech end of the barrel from the slide. **6. Extraction** - Pulling the spent cartridge from the chamber. **7. Ejecting** - Pushing the spent cartridge out of the ejection port. **8. Cocking** - Returning the firing mechanism to the fire position
